whut??? squats are a great exercise... but so is bench press...

anyone know how much weight he was pressing? and what a shitty spotter...

one time I was in the gym and I saw some old 70 year old guy benching with the bar on his throat... he only had like 5 pounds on each side so it didn't fuck him up... his face was hella red though, I might have saved him from dying
I don't understand how the bar gets to people's throats. That must be due to horrible form.

dam thats why if im pushin weight and I dont have a spotter, I make sure its some weight I can handle by myself. Whoever was spottin him probably wasnt even spottin him or payin attention assuming he can do it himself. hope he pulls through and continues his career.
Judging by the story, I don't think the spotter could have done anything. It says the bar slipped out of his hand and landed on his throat. So I don't think he brought the bar down and couldn't get it back up, from my understand he lost grip of the bar and it fell onto his throat.

I don't know how the hell that could happen, but that's what I got from the story.

im suprised USC didn't have them new weight lifting machines that automatically spot, but I hope he gets better and gets drafted because he was the best running back that USC had
are you talking about a smith machine?

if so... they're really not that great for bench pressing... they don't allow you use correct form... and there's nothing you can use that replace the effectiveness of using free weights

My guess is he may have been reaching the bar back up to the bar holder. On some benches its difficult to get the bar holder aligned directly with the chest. So he went to put it up and it slipped and since his arms were going up in the air and back toward his head when it slipped the momentum brought it to his neck.

Weightlifting is some serious shit I used to hit the weights heavy but now I just do it as a hobby to stay in shape no need to tear something or blow out a shoulder lifting too much weight.
