My thread about Quiksand made me want to know what some of you think are highly under-rated albums. Either mainstream or not, what are some albums you think deserved more recognition then it got?

I'll start with...

Helmet - Meantime

Although the album did go gold in the US I still think it's heavly slept on. Helmet could have, and prob. should have been up there on the level of Tool in the early-mid 1990's. I think the label (Interscope) kind of droped the ball with this album and Helmet in general. Song's like Unsung, Ironhead, FBLA II and Give It are 1990's masterpieces IMO. There seriously isn't one bad song on the album. 15 years later I still find myself listening to it all the way through on a weekly basis.

If you don't have it pick it up, download it, whatever. It's too good not to have in your collection.

Bush- Razorblade Suitcase

I hated it when it first came out back in '96, actually ended up shooting it with a pellet gun. Now I'd say it's in my top 10 albums of the 90s.

Blind Melon - Soup

I truely believe that Blind Melon would have been huge if Shannon Hoon (R.I.P.) hadn't OD'd. This album was put out after his death but was finished before he passed away. Although they will prob. always be known as "the band that has the little fat girl in a bee suit" by most people Blind Melon made some damn good fucking music. Personally I like Soup better than their more happy-go-lucky Self Titled. It is much, much, much darker album as it was recorded while Shannon was in the height and end of his drug use. With songs like "2 X 4", "Skinned" and "St. Andrew's Fall" you can really tell Hoon was in a dark mindset. This is another album that is over 10 years old (came out in 1995) that I find myself still listening to on a regular basis. Make sure you check it out.

^I'm gonna check tht out in a little bit, didn't even know about that album.

I've been listening to this album so much lately. It just came out last year, but I still think it's underrated in that I've only seen one person talk about them on a forum.

wiki wrote:

Nineteen year-old Adam Baker, a kid from Raleigh, NC with a faultless ear and a potent desire to create unheard-of sounds, is the architect of Annuals. Under Adam’s stewardship, Annuals transform pop paradigms into sweeping, luxuriant sonic landscapes while remaining faithful to a wholehearted emotional core. Carefully layering each song with a thousand noises and feelings, Annuals camouflage the deep simplicity of what they do, belying their youth with deftness & complexity.

Music fans seem to be looking for an answer to the questions of memory, surroundings, and love recently posed by musicians like Arcade Fire and Sufjan Stevens. Annuals have created a dense thicket of music that naturally replies, in a new and young voice, to these queries. All we have to do is listen.

Think The Dear Hunter, Arcade Fire, The Shins, etc.

Cranky, you will fucking love them. I can more or less guarantee it.

You might also want to check out the album downloads I put up from the band Quicksand.

Here is a excerpt from Wikipedia about Quicksand:

Many fans have noted that popular alt-rock act Tool seem to have molded their "signature" sound after Quicksand's releases.
Now I like Tool a lot more then Quicksand, but I totally hear what they are talking about when I listen to the albums.
