The bicep injury, as well as the shin injury, could be why Hendricks wasn't going for take downs. Dude is tough as hell for still going at it, going through a war, and winning the belt. Props to Hendricks.
he did go for take downs when he didnt want to stand. he probably didnt go for take downs other than that cus he wanted to throw. that was what the whole fight was damn near based on. they both went in there thinking someone was going to get knocked out. he woulda looked like a sucka if he tried taking down Lawler off bat and all through the fight.
and plus this is not the bar fight that everyone wanted/expected, yes they banged it out but this day in mma sports you cant be one dimensional a la jon jones, gsp, cain(you get it) diaz/lawler was ten years ago so that fight imo would be waaaaay different now. two different fighters from then to now.
