LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- The owners of a new Asian food delivery service in Westwood are attempting to find humor in a former UCLA student's racist rant by naming their business after the woman's most infamous line, "Ching chong ling long."
Ching Chong Ling Long Gourmet Takeout was formed by Rachel Lee, owner of The Palace Restaurant in Brentwood, and four students behind UCLA Munchies.
At first, Lee had some reservations about the name, but she was convinced by two UCLA students that it was an acceptable joke, LA Weekly reports.
The name was taken from a YouTube rant featuring ex- UCLA student Alexandra Wallace.
In the video, Wallace rants about the "hordes of Asian people that UCLA accepts" and describes the school's Asians as spoiled, rude and unintelligible.
Wallace mimics an Asian student answering a cell phone in the school's library by saying, "Ohhhhhhhh! Ching chong ling long ting tong! Ohhhhhhh!"
"Hi. In America, we do not talk on our cell phones in the library!" she rants.
Ching Chong Ling Long Gourmet Takeout says on its website that a little bit of humor can go a long way when dealing with such issues.
"We believe that the best way to combat intolerance is through a positive cultural experience mixed in with a healthy serving of humor," the site states.
Wallace stopped attending UCLA after the video sparked widespread anger and reportedly led to death threats.
