Tortas are toasted sandwiches that usually have meat shredded cheese tomatoes salsa lettuce guacamole etc in them. cubanos as far as I've seen are just lots of ham, pickles, and cheese toasted as well ( like philly cheese steaks).

VSTXDJ is right El Farolito is hella good too.

there is a place in redwood city that still sells the small carne asada tacos for a buck on spring street, the usual going price is 1.25 or 1.50
Yeah i wasnt specific, I can get the small(shitty) carne asada tacos for 1$, 1.50 with cheese/avac/cream. They got that taco truck in front of the safeway in san bruno with them. I use to be able to get the regular size for that price in fairfield. Im gonna have to start making them my self. Too bad richmonds too far.

WANNA MAKE YOUR OWN TORTA?

go to a carniceria, buy their "bolillos"(the bread they use to make 'em), buy some fresh aguacate, cebolla(red/purple...do not use the white onion), jitomate, jalapenos, queso fresco(just a little bit), crema mexicana(not sour cream but the real crema.....spread it like it's mayo), lechuga(if you perfer......i only use it when i use mex. lunch meat), and buy some of their carnitas and you're set. and if you dno't want jalapenos add your own spicy salsa.

make sure to warm your bread on a comal and slap the ingredients above^(or (your own ingredients) and BAM enjoy.

if i use mex. lunch meat i'll substitute the mex. cream for mayo, and add lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, avacados(sp), jalapenos(canned), and BAM your own mexican sub.

but there's so many ways to make a torta that to each his own.

btw.....if your torta has monetery, cheddar, mozerrella(sp) or any other type of cheese(other than queso fresco or seco) it ain't a real torta.....nah j/p that's just my opinion.

when my mom gets together with my aunt from L.A. yall better clear the kitchen and go spark a fat one because when they're done in the kitchen........you'll be askin for thirds and fourths.....no joke.
