Just make sure you teach him the difference between fiction and reality lol. My lil dude used to go crazy when I would put it on a rock channel on Sirius, he'd be head banging and shit.

my 5 year old daughter loves E-40 and Mac Dre... but I tend to skip passed the Too Short songs... I really don't trip on the random cuss words. Most are parents tried to shelter us from cussing and that didn't work...

personally im more worried about movies and mtv... then a rap cd

and yes i got thar disney shit on the ipod... I deal with that as well

I listen to a whole bunch of different music all the time. I'll bump what ever in front of my kids, but nothing too graphic like some old school 2 Live Crew LOL!!!!

Movies, I'm the same way. Of course, cover their eyes in some parts at times.

All in all, I won't shelter my kids and try and put them in a box hiding them from the world.

At the end of it all, that's what I'm here for. To teach them the difference between reality & entertainment.

Im surprised that many people change the radio or music to stuff other than rap around their kids.

Two thumbs up to those who do, and props.

I can understand teaching them the ways of the world and not turning them into a square, but forcing that type of shit on them isn't good.

And no, I don't have kids...dont' plan on it any time soon either.

If I did, I wouldn't listen to rap around him/her, and I'd probably stop cussing.

seriously if you talk to your kids and play other things it doesn't matter. when I was a kid I only liked rap for the beats, why? Because I didn't quite understand what the fuck a ho is a ho, and catchin a nigga slippin to peel his cap back, or no son god duke shit them niggas was talkin about.

plus if I wanted to listen to some corny shit my pops would be like "we aint listenin to that corny shit, this is real right here, reality raps". and he was right niggas was hardcore doin that shit rappers were talkin bout back in the day so we was on they mental.

That's like saying I was forced to listen to Rick James & The Gap Band, Homie. It doesn't matter what societies opinion is / was on those artist, or what the music was really about. Hence "Super Freak" (google the lyrics if you don't know).

I was fortunate enough to have good parents who were there to teach me the difference in it all.

No disrespect to ya, Mayne, but coming in to this thread and stating an opinion without really living this life as a parent is pretty much a shot in the dark and a bold statement.

Besides, if so many people are anti rap with their kids, WTF?!?!?! are you doing on the Siccness? GTFOH! and practice what you preach! Set the example as a parent. :siccness:

well I am a parent, and no way in hell am i gonna bump Dubee aka the sugawolf in front of my kids. Cuz when they tel they teacher "Aye Bitch." Guess where they got it from. And I am sorry, little kids are not going to comprehend you explaning the profane lyrics in a rap song. It will fly way over they little brains imo. Not trying to judge, its just better to be safe than sorry.
I think it depends how you were raised too, cuz my parents raised me the same way. just sticks with you I guess.

That's a fair statement. On my end, I spend countless time with my son. He's my sidekick. My kids live with me, so I'm around a lot. Yes, I listen to all types of music etc etc.. like I said in my other replies.

Yet, my son is at the top of his class and made student of the month.

With that being said, I don't hold barriers with my kids, cause daddy is home and doing his job.

I raised my daughter on a mix of brotha lynch, mars, adr lavey and a little bit of Malice, she got older and I saw her acting different, the music made her stronger.....maybe I was high but it seemed like the music I played for her affected the way she grew up. One day I realized she had gotten all grown up on, she was so tall I didn't recognize her

Then I knew it was time

I had to kill her

I cut her head off, chopped her into little bits and pieces, and left her in a closet for a week

I murdered my daughter in cold blood, all because of my drug addiction

My daughters name was Mary Jane, she was 4 feet tall, she weighed a little over a pound...she was so beautiful, but she had to die to support my addiction

She was only 3 months old...

I did what any good parent would do...a week later I went back to the closet

I burned the body , piece by piece until it was all gone

Now I got my eyes on her little sister...

i got a nice little cd put together. jack johnson, backyardigans, mickey clubhouse hits, etc. my children are going to stay kids as long as possible. no need to let them hear all that negativity. not saying anyone else is wrong, but everyone has different approaches. as long as your child has no reason to lie to you, your good imo.

I think the unfair thing about this whole thread is the anti-rap, your good if you keep it out of the kids ears etc etc...whatever whatever.

I'm sure most of you who are parents can relate when I say: It's not like we sit around and bump gangsta rap all day long and leave the kids unattened, or never consider what they wish to listen to.

Being a parent, there is so much more to it. My son bumps kids songs, watches cartoons and loves School House Rock & Seame Street and movies like Iron Man, ride their bikes and play with toys etc etc. On top of helping them with homework etc etc... and plenty quality time.

In the end, bumping rap in front of them is only a fraction of what happens in life. Keep them close, focused and pay plenty of attention to them.

Most people won't bump gansta rap in front of their kids, but will be high as fuck, or drunk in front of them. Or better yet, a dead beat dad...makes no got damn sense. But want's to tell them not to listen to rap? LOL!!!!
