TNA just issued the following press release:

HULKAMANIA IS COMING BACK TO MONDAY NIGHT ON “TNA iMPACT!” LIVE JANUARY 4 ON SPIKE TV

Hulk Hogan’s First Live Appearance On Spike TV’s “TNA iMPACT” Will Be In A Special 3-Hour Live Episode Monday, January 4 At 8:00 PM ET/PT

The biggest name in professional wrestling history, Hulk Hogan, will make his first live appearance on Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling’s “TNA iMPACT!” in a live 3-hour special on Spike TV Monday, January 4, 2010 at 8:00PM ET/PT. Hogan and TNA President Dixie Carter attended “The Ultimate Fighter Heavyweights” Finale in Las Vegas where Hogan made the announcement in an interview with Joe Rogan.

“TNA iMPACT!” will be going against “WWE Monday Raw” on USA Network, the first time two wrestling companies have broadcast live head-to-head since the “Monday Night Wars” in the late 1990’s between WWE and WCW. This “iMPACT!” special will broadcast live from the TNA iMPACT! Zone at Universal Studios in Orlando, Fl.

Hogan’s first appearance inside the six-sided ring of TNA Wrestling will follow weeks of speculation after Hogan and Carter announced their partnership on October 27 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Hogan has hinted in various media interviews that he’ll have multiple surprises in store for TNA Wrestling fans.

“I knew when I signed with TNA, that it would be important to make a statement with the first episode. Going head-to-head on January 4th, makes the statement loud and clear: Game on!” Hogan said.

“TNA is kicking off 2010 in the biggest way possible with the biggest name in the history of our sport. Hulk Hogan is a pop culture icon, and his arrival will change not only TNA, but the entire professional wrestling landscape. We’re firing that first shot,” Carter said.

Joining Hogan for the three-hour live “iMPACT!” will be TNA World Heavyweight Champion “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles, Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle, Mick Foley, Kevin Nash, “The Samoan Submission Machine” Samoa Joe, “The Boss” Bobby Lashley and “The Blueprint” Matt Morgan.

“TNA iMPACT!” will resume its normal timeslot on Thursday, January 7th at 9:00 PM ET/PT with an encore viewing of the live “iMPACT!” special.

If its done correctly then TNA might just do what WCW did years ago. Hopefully they dont end up like every other company that has gone against Vince and get bought out and crapped down the stool (ECW)

if they try to redo what WCW did years ago, it's just gonna damage what little credibility they already lost with signing Hogan, as well as every other wrestler WWE would drop

I doubt it. This is WRESTLING after all lol... Its expected that TNA takes a swipe at WWE. The difference is gonna be in the rosters and what they do with the talent. IF TNA can keep good talent coming in and can put on a better show then they will win in the long run.

I know WWE wont take this lying down. Im interested to see what they will be doing that night and who they will bring back in to battle Hogan (Warrior?)

HOPE THIS STARTS ANOTHER MONDAY NIGHT WAR, SHIT CAN ONLY DO GOOD FOR THE BUSINESS, HOPE IT DOESN'T FLOP THOUGH BECAUSE ALOT OF PEOPLE ARE PROBABLY TIRED OF HOGAN OR DON'T REALLY CARE ABOUT HIM ANYMORE, BUT THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN PROBABLY REALLY BRING WRESTLING BACK IS THE ROCK

yeah but it's too predictable that they'll take a swipe at WWE, every episode of TNA contains some kind of swipe at WWE.

TNA could put on a better show yes, but WWE is already at the point were they don't even have to compete with TNA, they have enough to power, to put on the wackest show, and it'll still get world wide views and positive ratings. TNA needs to focus on building up thier own storylines and building thier franchise higher.

Hogan is a positive and negative, because backstage drama and tension is most likely at it's highest but publicity is on the rise.

yup I would find it hard to believe if the majority of tna esp the younger genration don't get tired of hogans ego one way or another one shit starts to happen. The only way it could work is if hogan really does stay backstage and focus on bringin up talent. But if this is his way of just going back in the ring with his fellow senior citizens this shit won't work

Latest Wire

don't have this confirmed just yet but I was told by a reliable source tonight that WWE may be planning to counter TNA's three-hour special on January 4th with a three-hour special of their own. That means both shows would go head-to-head from 8-11EST on January 4th. Anyone think WWE doesn't care or think about TNA? Guess again.
I'll have more on this tomorrow but again this is NOT confirmed just yet.

Monday Night wars 2 oh boy. Let's see if WWE delivers or will they have Chavo complain to the guest host, and Santino joke with them like every week. I think they will do a never before seen main event or do an all brand Raw. Either way if they do something different it shows they are threatened by TNA. Competition is alwaYs good so I hope TNA does a strong number for this night.

yup i feel you, it will be successful if TNA pulls at least a 2.0 rating since they usually get 1.0's and are lucky to even get 1.3's. WWE better not drop the ball on this one too, if they get a guest host again it better be a recognized name, not some d-list mutherfucka...damn cant wait for this night, lets see what will happen....im still pullin for Vinnie Mac, cause hes eventually gonna end up detroyin TNA IMO

From what Ive read here, it sounds like its a one time thing. If TNA draws a huge rating (and Im sure this will bring the biggest number they've ever had - doubt it'll beat WWE), itll open the door to a possible permanent slot for them.

Honestly I think Spike gets a better number on mondays with their Spike Movie of the week, or reruns of TUF, than they do with TNA running unopposed on a Thursday. We will have to see on 1/4/10

I think its gonna backfire and wwe will do more ratings due to teh fact taht this hogan shit is basically just a internet thing as of now. and only his part of that show will do ratings. also vince has more money and resources so now he has time to prepare something big for that raw

well Hogan has been mentioning the new TNA deal on his little press tour for his book, so i would say its more than an internet thing. plus they have a whole month to hype the 3 hour monday night special, i dont see how it could backfire. nothing WWE has done with these celebrities or even putting on ppv caliber matches on Raw has boosted the ratings
