combination of lack of money and mismanagement. The Royals can't really afford the payroll of say the Yankees, Red Sox, or D'Backs. What money they do have doesn't seem to get spent as well as say the Twins or A's do. Course, when you're working w/ a smaller payroll, it doesn't take many bad decisions to ruin it. One guy w/ a fat contract that turns out to be a bust or injured could hurt your team immensely. I'd like to think the new revenue sharing shit will help, but I don't expect anything drastic. Oh well, at least I have the D'Backs to cheer on...
loyal fans mean more money coming in from attendence and concessions and taxes in the city, this in turn creates a bigger payroll...... and even when the cards lose, we still support them and go to the games.... can't say the same witht he royals
You have to consider media contracts as well. To be honest w/ you, I don't know where the Cards payroll ranks (if I wasn't totally lazy, I could look it up), or what percentage of that comes from TV revenues, but what separates teams like the Royals from teams like the Yankees is the size of media market. The Royals will never get a TV contract worth a fraction of what the Yankees could just because of the sheer number of potential viewers in the New York area versus KC.
Now, like I said before, payroll isn't all. It's also mismanagement. If I recall correctly, both the Twins and the A's had a smaller payroll than the Royals last season.
lol. just reversing what is common to hear (usually from Chiefs fans actually...) about all the times Chiefs went to the playoffs in the 90's, but never "brought home the hardware".
It is a fun thing to say to Cards fans tho, esp since they are so much better than the Royals.
i never said anything bad about the chiefs though, in fact i was the one admitting that the rams suck this year..... i still dislike the royals, but that's because i dislike the al... the only al team i like is boston..... it's aight though... kc is cool.... at least you guys aren't chicago (opens up another can of worms)
