WO ARRESTED IN SHOOTING: Modesto police arrested a brother and sister in connection with the Saturday shooting of a 13-year-old boy. The boy, identified by police as a gang member, remains in critical condition at a hospital but is expected to survive, Modesto police Sgt. Ed Steele said. The teen was standing outside a gas station at Maze Boulevard and Martin Luther King Drive about 1 p.m. when a man in a sport utility vehicle shot him. About an hour later, Antonio Hernandez, 19, showed up at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his foot, Steele said. Officers questioned him and arrested him and his sister, Vivian Hernandez, 22, on suspicion of attempted murder, gang enhancements and felony weapons violations. They remain in custody with bail of $500,000 for the brother and $505,000 for the sister. Steele said Antonio Hernandez appears to have shot the teenager because Hernandez knew he was a gang member. Hernandez appears to have shot himself in the foot after shooting the boy, Steele said. Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to call Detective Eric Beffa at 572-9551.
