First, if you weren't alive to own a NES during it's time then please know before responding that you opinion is completely void.

1st. I hate how the current gen of gamers have no clue about 10 out of 10 thing they talk about.

COD was not the premier military shooter.
GOW was not the first hack and slash game.
Castlevania hasn't been 2D since the N64.

2nd. How simplified games have become.

Get stuck in a section, don't worry 2 minutes in and a hint will pop up.
Die, don't worry we'll restart you at the section you were at.

I remember just recently reading a thread on here where someone stated that BlazBlue was "too hard". This is a hilarious statement because BlazBlue is a Guilty Gear clone that has been dramaticly simplified. Increased input windows, simpler inputs, slower game play, and less mechanics.

3rd DLC/Online.

I must admit this is a great idea but if you don't have a way to access the internet via console, you just loose out. I like the idea of companies being able to release stuff down the line, but there needs to be a way to access this stuff besides through the console.

Just a few things. please add all your complaints.

1. Multiplayer. I hate looking at the word, I hate hearing the word. I understand playing games with more than one person. I grew up in the arcades I'm good with that, but when you sacrifice your single player campaign so you can build your multiplayer, and the idiots you're trying to reach only play it for two weeks then go back to Halo, COD, Gears, etc, you've done nothing but left a sour taste in the mouths of those who you've should had hit, which are, the single player gamers.

2. Replayability. Now given the fact it isn't even a fuckin word, I also hate seeing it and hearing. There is no such thing as "replayability" as ALL games have the ability to be replayed and you can NEVER play any one game the exact same way every single time. Your ability to replay depends on you and the value you place on the game. If it doesn't have unlockables, so what? How does that stop you from replaying the game and playing it a certain way?

3. I can rest and magically heal myself. Yeah, I know, it is a game and it is all entertainment, but when a guy is ripped to shreds by thousands of bullets, magically heals himself by sitting still, and you at least don't lie to the gamer by telling he/she that the person is able to utilize advance healing because of the suit blah blah blah, it gets tiresome. You normally see this madness in FPS and TPS. Which brings me to the following.

4. FPS. If there has ever been a type of game that has contributed to the moral decay of America it has to be FPS. A person sitting around eating dorritos while shouting (or typing) "FUCK U NOOBZ I BEEZ THA LEET N DIS BIAAAAAAATCH" or going cracy like the kids in those youtube vids needs to be examined. But lets move on from them and look at FPS. In a FPS, all the game mechanics are basically the same. There are differences, yes, but for the most part you control your reticule/camera, shoot guns, go here, go there, blow this up, and repeat the process till the credits role. There may be set peices to change up the pacing, and some mechanics may be different, but for the most part all FPS boil down to the same thing.

So that brings me to this point. There should be NO FPS. There should ONLY be TPS with a STANDARD (or option til it becomes standard) to play it in the first person perspective. Again, you're only working with the camera, and I realize the camera between a FPS and TPS is different, but consider this: 1. Many TPS already implement FPS elements (when you shoot a certain way or use sniper rifles for example) 2. You already have the assets to make the characters TP.

5. Hardcore gamer. WHAT THE FUCK IS A HARDCORE GAMER?

6. Fanboys. These have existed since the days of Sega Master System/Mega Drive vs NES/Famicom. It probably even goes back to Atari, Colecovision and Intellivision. However, fanboys now days have stooped to unheard of levels of faggotry of fanboyism, and it needs to stop. I own two systems, I hold no alligence to any of the gaming companies. Do these companies pay your bills? Exactly.

@Dead Blue your #3 is being rectified in the form of DLC being offered in GOTY additions and stand alone discs. The big companies are the ones doing this as they have the most content and budget to offer it.

My first system was the NES so I guess I'll contribute.

I have to agree, the hand holding is getting ridiculous. Play games made back in the early 90's to 80's and they are hard as hell comparatively.

3rd DLC/Online.

I must admit this is a great idea but if you don't have a way to access the internet via console, you just loose out. I like the idea of companies being able to release stuff down the line, but there needs to be a way to access this stuff besides through the console.

I read somewhere, possibly Gameinformer, that an idea to circumvent this would be download centers at major game retailers such as Gamestop where you bring in a memory card, pay for the DLC, possibly with cash since it's at the store and take it home to your console. Seems very doable.

Yeah, besides Bioshock, big budget single player games are becoming less and less common, outside of certain genre's like RPG's.

I think a more accurate term would be, long term fun factor. How long will the game hold your interest before you never want to play it again. The problem is, most games aren't that good enough to warrant a 2nd playthrough. The industry has started to stagnate outside of a few shining lights. Of course I could play through any game again, but would I enjoy it? There are fewer and fewer games I would want to replay.

That's some of that hand holding for you, ever since Halo became popular it's been incorporated in more and more games. I think it's just to rack up sales, try to have the most people get the full experience as possible. A lot of people get stuck and just quit playing the game instead of trying to figure out what went wrong.

4. I've though that myself but I assume that would be more time consuming to animate. It is a business afterall, they aim to milk gamers for all they're worth.

5. Hardcore gamer. WHAT THE FUCK IS A HARDCORE GAMER?
Good question lol.

6. Exactly.
I never got that either.

My biggest complaint that I didn't see you two mention is the lack of creativity and originality in console games. Most developers are too chicken shit to make a new IP, when they do, it's usually a mashup of already successful franchises. Again, corporate interest getting in the way of fun.

Also, this goes for all media period, enough with Nazi's, zombies and vampires. Cut it the fuck out.

Gameplay is just not cutting in a lot of sports games I know that much. Everyones to focused on graphics and it has killed the fun factor in a lot of games imo. Multiplayer is starting to fall off hard, newer versions of all these online games are just doing to much (shooters mainly) or not making enough improvements in certain games (mainly sports games). I cant say i really have many complaints in campaign modes or career modes whatever you want to call them and again thats mainly non-sports games.

1 - short single player campaign, wtf is up with most games having some little 6-10 hour single player mode which i can finish in about a week tops? i remember playing games on the ps1 and taking ages to complete them. it would take me weeks or even months to get through games like legacy of kain soul reaver or tomb raider 3. now this could be something to do with game becoming a lot easier now but it's always nice to see a nice long game like grand theft auto or fallout.

2 - lack of good replay value, most games these days are either too linear or not interesting enough to warrant a second play through. an example of a recent offender is god of war 3

1. EA. They monopolize the market and produce shit every year, games are buggy and the gameplay is arcadish. Fifa for example is like an ice hockey game.

2. Gaming industry becomming like the music industry, everything is mass produced and has no substance.

3. DLC. Addons used to be free, but now they want more money for their shitty game.

4. Companies selling us shiny pieces of shit, gameplay in general for many games is not like the old days, there is not much effort put into single player anymore.

5. Consoles. (even though I got one myself). I dislike FPS games being made for consoles then ported to PC now. FPS games with no lean or prone are pathetic, FPS are not meant for consoles. Good ol' call of duty was born on pc then sold its soul for the consoles.

6. Community. There is no sense of community in any games, they are full of retards seeking attention now. Back in the day playing a FPS on PC with a few servers and a steady 20-30 people logging on every night made a community, everyone knew each other, people fought, people laughed, we had fun, but it was good times.

I always been a gamer since a kid, love playing games as a hobby. Played FPS on pc online for about 10 years, I remember Strike Force, it was an Unreal Tournament full modification. We had about 50 Aussie regulars that played it, my clan was number 1 and so was I. I remember when I got invited to the Dev's server to play with the makers (US server) first round I grabbed my glock and rushed, ended up taking out 6 of them and was the last man standing. Hearing the 'woah' on the Roger Wilco (Team speak/Ventrillo/Voice chat) from the dev's put a smile on my face. And getting the password to that server meant you were good, you were recongized as a top player. I will never forget the days of 8v8 clan battles, devising tactics for each fight and winning and having everyone work as a TEAM was the best reward for me.

even games like Raven Shield Rainbow six there was a nice community..

FPS means 1 shot in the fucking head you die, not 2 or 3. FPS means you had to actually aim before you shoot and not just spray and pray. FPS meant teamwork not 20 rambos.

now I log on a console FPS and my hands are like wtf is this shit aiming with the thumb, you gotta use the mouse son! I will never be good at consoles watered down FPS games, but I don't give a fuck. Black Ops will be on PC so I will make do.

and you can blame Counter Strike for the influx of mouth breahting deadshits, LANS and online.

If the game is a single player with absolutely no aspect of multiplayer or co-op it would be an animation problem. However, if your game has mp or co-op it's laziness or unwillingness to do third person and adjust the camera. FPS, specifically those with mp and co-op already have most if not all of the animation done. You'd have to have it done or else the person you're playing with wouldn't be able to see you.

Coming from way back and owning the original atari and going forward from there. i have to say i hate the downloadable content. new maps after a couple of months sucks new story line added to the story sucks. i bought the FUCKING game why do i have to buy stuff to make it better shouldnt all of the good stuff been on there already? why do i have to buy the new and improved if the product didnt have all of the features in the first place maybe it should not have released. dont you think???

thats my only rant about the new era of gaming take your time and do it right get all of the content on the game that way i dont feel like i got jipped when you drop new and improved downloads to supposively make my gaming better. money hungry assholes we are in a recession and if you want me to save my money and buy an unfinished game all i have to say to you is EAT A FAT ONE!!!!

Yeah you're right, MW2 had a 3rd person mode that I liked but hardly anyone else did. Obviously didn't take much more work if they could work it into a game that was as hyped and had to meet a deadline. I think maybe there's just not that much of a demand for the option of third person from the consumers to make it an industry standard.

the lack of re-playability

i hate when the story gets cut back for more graphical enhancements

i hate games that take years to make with huge budgets and all they could come up with is 8 hours a game time

i hate when games have terrible endings

i hate noob tubes

there are to this day games i have not beaten on NES or sega master system...even SNES and genesis etc... that i have yet to beat...back then we had 3 lives maybe a couple continues and maybe a checkpoint ( depending on what games ) if you wanted to save you had to write down a long ass password and put it somewhere...too much effort so i usually just left the system on all night until the following day lol......

which leads me to my next point.....

i hate consoles these days that have overheating issues and the manufacturers that cant fix the problems yet expect us to continue to support it.....way back when i could leave my consoles on for days at a time and never worry...matter of fact i never had any issues....yet i dare do that to my ps3 or 360 and they turn into toasters...you can literally heat a small apartment with the heat the 360 emits

i hate how developers leave out certain content in hopes of cashing in more later

i hate how im usually disappointed with my game purchase because the promo made it look amazing....much like movie previews

they rush the game out to meet the release date and its full of bugs, then they have their money and they don't give a fuck, thats why patches are few and far between.

I love everything you guys hate.

Im sorry, but I am a CASUAL GAMER. I own maybe ten titles that i have collected over the last decade. I dont play that often.

I hate FPS's. I need to see my character.

I LOVE when games are not very hard (most games have multiple difficulty levels). Guess what? I SUCK at video games, and when I cant complete something or get past an enemy...i dont play it. And I dont want to get hella far, and then die on some bogus shit and have to start ALL THE WAY BACK in bumfuck county...thats gay. I dont have time and I lose interest. I LOVE using cheats. Sue me.

Magically healing. Its a video game. Its not real. 99% of what happens in video games, will NEVER actually happen in real life. And yes, that INCLUDES Madden. I dont play video games to exhibit real life actions...that's what REAL LIFE IS FOR.

I agree with DLC. While I think its cool, I never do it because it can be a pain in the ass...especially with the XBox which NEEDS a hardwire internet connection (the new ones dont, obviously).

No one likes glitches, but I have never experience any that would make me NOT play a game. Then again, I obviously dont play as much as others.

Replay value. I mean, if you beat a game and all you do is unlock hard mode and some gay as photo gallery, than the replay value is LOW. However, if you beat a game and you get a special weapon, a plethora of costumes that have an affect on how the game is played (See: GOW), or there is incentive to keep beating harder and harder modes, THAT is HIGH "replayability" factor.

I will agree, we ALL experience video gaming differently...thats a given. Its like any other subjective piece of art or entertainment...some like it, some dont, you cant please everybody.

I hate the communities in console games like Outlaw said, they just throw anybody at you, they should have a lobby for every game where you can set up rooms for like clans and shit like that. Bring the gamers closer like in Mplayer on PC from the Quake and Avp days late 90's shit.

Games that don't have dedicated servers are hurting the playability for everybody in consoles. Halo probably has the best system online to play that keeps shit even. Lagged games are far less.

Make rankings regional and more broad, and you should be able to access them before you play a game.

I hate the fact that they haven't done a mmo or mmorpg on the consoles yet or any of the strategy games on PC like Age of Empires and shit like that. I like playing big games with shit load of people online. I want the same shit on consoles like they have on PC.
