Man I got downvoted into oblivion on the Bloodborne sub reddit.
Here is just one post of mine:
You just wasted your money.
First let's talk about the story. It does NOTHING to create a sense of empathy. The game doesn't give you a compelling reason to care about yourself, the citizens, the city and certain characters (those who you'll see in the games hub area.) I understand you are to piece the story yourself, but the story elements are far and few, and very convoluted, so you might as well not even bother. And other FROM SOFTWARE titles had GARBAGE stories as well (basically all of the Armored Core games) so don't go in thinking this is some great way to tell a story, like the writer wanted people to pick up on nuances and shit. It's bad story telling.
The combat? Laughable. You are literally going to do the same thing over and over for the first 4-10 hours as you will need to grind. You will do the same combos over and over and over and over and over. Doesn't matter if you use your trick weapon, doesn't matter if you focus on stamina, it's going to be the same thing over and over. Using a different weapon means nothing as you'll just be using that weapons moves which are very limited. The point is, you are going to do the same thing over and over. Why do I keep saying you are going to do the same thing over and over? Because, in this game, you are going to do the same thing over and over. Dodge, stun with the gun, deathblow. Dodge, limited combo. Dodge, combo, trick weapon. YOU ARE GOING TO DO THIS OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
But we aren't done with combat friend, not by a long shot. See, the camera in this game is probably one of the worst cams in video game history. People here will tell you "it's a game play mechanic" or "it's a tool you don't have to use it" but what action game do you know is so spastic when it comes to lock on? Think about it like this, have you ever played a shooter where you blind fired from the hip? Now imagine shooting from the hip the majority of the game and not going into iron sights or the cam going over your shoulder. That's EXACTLY what you will experience with this game because the camera is broken. A cam/lock on is not a "tool" in a game. It is a function, it's not some option that you get when you power up, yet this games lock on is horrible. Just try it on the first boss, you'll thank me for it--NOT! All the camera clipping and screen tearing as a result, its just bad and that brings me to my next point...
The lack of polish can be seen in several areas. Yes, the game looks good. The aesthetics are great but some of the areas do look the same. In addition to this, there are times when an enemy can be on the ground, you can hit them with a weapon, and the enemy will immediately stand up and either die or start trying to attack you. No standing animation, just wonky hitbox detection and BOOM! He's up on his feet.
Now let's get into the difficulty of the game. I have no problem with difficult games, anyone who wants to can check my trophy list for PS and my achievement list for 360. I tend to just beat games on whatever the hardest difficulty the game offers right out the box and then I shelve it. However, this games difficulty is there to actually pad the campaign. It's not difficult due to learning curve, it's difficulty due to damage you inflict and what's inflicted on you, which is why you will spend your early hours grinding. Now let's say you take all that away, if the game wasn't so difficult, with you dying over and over again, how long would the game be? I'd say you can probably run through it in 5-10 hours tops, not counting the dungeons and I'm sorry, I'm not going to even go into those, lol.
Look man, I'm giving you my impression of the game, and I know I'm going to be downvoted, but I'm sorry I couldn't have helped you earlier. IMHO, you just wasted your money but it is what it is.
