carpenters thing is one of my favorite movies of all time, so i was kinda biased and sure this new one going to suck. but it didn't. of course it wasn't better and i think could live happily without this, but still it was cool. cast was good n cgi tentacles looked good. it wasn't as creepy as carpenters, but i think they still did pretty good job. then i didn't like that they jacked some scenes straight or changed a lil bit from carpenters movie, but in the end it was solid prequel with lots of cool shit. 7/10

You know what? I actually agree with this. I thought they did a pretty good job of somehow keeping the same type of feel to the film as the 80's version. I give it a solid 7.5/10 and I went into it absolutely hating the idea of a prequel. The Kurt Russell version I absolutely loved and probably rate that around a 9.5/10.

Now I'm going to say this, the CGI stuff, honestly, I think what they did in the 80's looked way better and more realistic then this modern day CGI crap which almost always to me just looks fake and kinda ruins something for me for a couple seconds or so any time I see it, it's just annoying. The 80's version it just seemed creepier, bloodier, nastier, and just plain better imo.

Nonetheless I was surprised the prequel was pretty good.

Based on that PG-13 crap that Hollywood releases nowadays and call them horror movies, I was very happy with The Thing prequel. I paid to see it and I don't feel cheated at all. The Thing 1982 is a classic movie that still looks great today without CGI, but I will add the new one to my horror movies collection.
