Some artists that sell on their personal websites prefer fans/customers/marks to purchase through outside distribution. In the workplace you wouldn't need to know that unless you have worked in executive management or ownership. On the other hand, some do prefer to get that direct sell, especially when sustaining is more pertinent than expanding.
