I don't see all the hype with the Cleveland deal. They gave up the two best players in that trade.. It was a bad trade for them. Ben Wallace is probably a little worse than Varajeo now and not as good as Gooden. Hughes used to kill the Pistons with his defense on Chauncey Billups, now he's gone. I mean, they have a three point shooter and they got a new point guard who is one of the ten worst starting point guards in the league.
But the pistons are a better team this year than they were in 2004. There starting five is better. Tayshaun, Billups, and Rip are all better players. Sheed knows the team more and Dyess is a far more dangerous offensive player, and the team hasn't had a defensive drop off at all without Wallace because he wasn't the defender that everybody thought he was. He always needs a very good defender next to him to be any good. Plus the bench is by far better... Juan Dixon will probably be the 12th man on this team in the playoffs and we had to cut Flip Murray because there was no room for him. The scary thing is that the bench is really young, too. Afflalo, Stuckey, Hayes, Maxiell and Amir have all been in the league less than five years.
The Lakers are a good team, though, but I think they are being overrated right now. Kobe is by far the best player in the league but Gasol isn't that good. Bynum is going to be awesome, but Bynum and Gasol are going to have to go through an adjustment to playing together when Bynum gets healthy. Its not easy for two players like that to just get on a team and play well together. Look at the Suns with Amare and Shaq.
But looking at it, I see these teams with a legitimate shot at winning the title this year: Boston, Detroit, Los Angeles, San Antonio, Dallas and maybe Houston and Phoenix. Sorry to Utah, Cleveland, Orlando, Denver, and New Orleans, I don't see your teams having any shot.
