It would be a good move for donovan. Serie a teams seem to always sign players from within the league especially if they help to secure a low level club future at top flight ball. A lot of chievo, bologna, torino, lecce, players signed for the bigger clubs this summer. If donovan can perform well he could see an offer from roma, Milan, etc

Speed doesn't mean as much in Serie A as it does in EPL or La Liga only because Serie A is a more tactical game of soccer. Still, speedy forwards are more liable to cause trouble for italian defenders. I think Donovan could really put something good together with Livorno. They have Lucarelli who is a good forward and a couple other dudes who could form a pretty dangerous attack.

But at the same time Donovan seems to think he's worthy of a big european club, and maybe he is (i think he's really good) but he has to prove himself first. He could go to Livorno and become a star and make some noise in Italy or he could ride the pine at a big name club. i think the smart decision is to give Livorno a try.... worst thing that could happen is he fails and gets loaned out somewhere else or goes back to the US. best thing that could happen is he plays well and attracts the attention of bigger clubs looking to fill a starters position next summer
