Lost my grandma to Cancer in 08 . Watched her take her last breath. Let me tell u, that was the hardest thing I've ever had to do.
I feel your pain man. I still think about what it was like to watch my grandma die in front of my face. Witnessing somebody go lifeless is NOT the business. You can lose dozens of friends and family members, but when you witness it, that shit will change you forever.

The family decided to take her off her support system (she was still alert, but drugged to the max). She was trying to rip the breathing tubes out. The dr. said she would die in a couple minutes after they removed the tubes. She sat there trying to breathe for a good 15 minutes....like a fish out of water. My uncle is a CHP cop (seen all kinds of fucked up shit), but he left the room 'cause he couldn't stand to see his mom like that. Shit was TOUGH! What sucks is knowing you can't do a damn thing to save them.

R.I.P to your grandma.

i feel u dana, and i can feel exactly what your pops was going thru..this was last saturday, and ive cried every single day since then..ive tried to make it through one day of no crying but i just cant seem to do it...i mean, he was 12 and was slowing down, but he was still very active and playful, had a few health issues but nothing major..this was all very sudden and happened within the course of the day..

me and my family (5 of us) all got to spend his last 2 hours with him, and we rubbed and comforted him as the doctor injected the stuff into his catheter..needless to say, we all got very emotional again as we spent another 20 min or so saying our goodbyes to him :(
not sure if you are religious or not, but I love this and hope this really happens:

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Rest In Peace to my sister Stephanie. Passed away back in 04 of colon cancer, 25 years old & had just married her HS sweetheart 5 months prior. Was the oldest of 3 kids, & the rest of my cousins. Just kills me that I wasn't there with her when she passed.

Edit: FUCK CANCER!

My dad didnt die of cancer but of COPD (emphasyma) (sp?), and he did the exact same thing, tryna rip the very things that were keeping him alive off. They eventually had to restrain his arms down, even as he was too weak to drink from a straw. Even tho it was for his own good, I swear i wanted to go off on the dr for ordering it.

And, as a side note, has anyone seen that documentary on HBO, How to Die in Oregon? It dealt with the very issue of how much is too much suffering (usually from cancer) and 'death with dignity'. Just curious.

Fuck cancer. My gramma Shirley died of lung cancer today almost exactly a year after we found out she had it. She died about an hour after I left her house. Can't believe how quickly she went downhill. Cancer sucks balls.
