San Francisco Giants receive raucous welcome back home
The Giants returned home to a hero's welcome Sunday, sending a charge through a tired and bleary-eyed group of players who had spent the night before celebrating a National League pennant.
Hundreds of fans braved the rain outside AT&T Park to show their appreciation for a team that will host the Texas Rangers on Wednesday in Game 1 of the World Series.

Several of the players returned the love, high-fiving fans and shaking hands before heading home for a well-earned day off.
Freddy Sanchez led the procession and said the players were shocked by the boisterous welcoming committee.
"These guys are amazing -- the best fans in baseball," Sanchez said. "This is what we get every night at this stadium. The energy these fans bring is just awesome."
After a 3-2 pennant-clinching win Saturday night, the Giants slept in and didn't leave Philadelphia until after lunchtime. Many players were allowed to leave for home straight from San Francisco International Airport, a plan that manager Bruce Bochy said he would have changed had he known his players would receive such a raucous welcome on their return.
Bochy wouldn't divulge any baseball plans, saying only that the Giants would spend the next two days evaluating their potential World Series roster and rotation. The players are off until a 5 p.m. workout today.
Bochy revealed that Andres Torres has a hip flexor but said the outfielder -- who was injured sliding into first base in the ninth inning Saturday night -- will be re-evaluated today and should be ready for Game 1.
Wednesday's starter remains undecided.
Tim Lincecum toed the rubber in both playoff openers, but he came out of the bullpen Saturday, two days after starting Game 5. Matt Cain shut out the Phillies through seven innings in Game 2 and was slated to start a Game 7 that wasn't needed.
Cain, who took a video of the crowd outside AT&T Park with a flip camera and yelled "this is awesome" to reporters, hasn't pitched since Tuesday in Game 3 of the NLCS.
"We're going to sit down and talk about all that," Bochy said of the rotation decision. "Right now the boys are tired. We've been going back and forth across this country quite a bit the last 10 days.
"We'll take a breather, and then it's right back to work, but believe me, there's not a better feeling than playing this time of year."
That was crystal clear Sunday, as three buses followed a police escort from the airport to the ballpark. Honking horns made it clear that their arrival was pending, prompting the rally-towel-waving crowd to break into a "Let's go Giants!" chant.
Word of the Giants' return was spread on Twitter, and fans started lining up near the player's lot four hours before the team reached AT&T Park. A group of children held a "Welcome Pappy" sign for Juan Uribe, while a few feet away a 3-year-old waved a "My Heroes Are Giants" sign as he eagerly awaited a chance to glimpse his favorite player, Buster Posey.
Players and their families waved as they drove off, most notably Sergio Romo, who repeatedly honked his horn and pumped his fist out the window, exalting the fans to make more noise as he headed home.
Madison Bumgarner, the youngest member of the team, was one of the last to leave. The 21-year-old stood in the front of the crowd, an amused look on his face as he tried to put the scene into words.
"This is unbelievable, we never expected this, "Bumgarner said. "We're all exhausted, but I guarantee you nobody is feeling it right now."
