The poetry was just from entering contests at poetry.com actually. The short story I just emailed to the mag. I didn't get paid for any of it, so I suggest you just get little shit published here and there in even littler shit magazines or something, then keep record of what's been published and use that as a "resume" of sorts to send to whoever you want to be published by.

I've just started this recently myself, and it's actually a lot easier to get published than it seems. There's a million websites out there looking for all sorts of writing, and as long as you make sure you keep the rights to whatever it is you are submitting, you can have the same thing published over and over untill you are satisfied.
