hmm, yeah I don't know I'm not all that impressed. yeah it's an awesome play but when you attach the "greatest play ever" it doesn't impress me. I mean dude deflects the ball while trying to stay in bounds and that's about it. Not much different then when guys run down the field and keep a punt in bounds or whatever, only difference is this is a an INT.

Great heads up play all around but I'll forget about it shortly

(after reading my response, please note if I were to try to do that I would probably break my spine)
The amount of concentration and intelligence to even THINK about making that play is incredible in and of itself. That, and stretching out that far, making a PERFECT deflection and EXPECTING your fellow player to MAKE that catch? That is every bit the criteria for one of the greatest plays ever.

People really do underestimate the cognitive qualities that can make a football play great, which is what happened there.

If you wanna talk about greatest play ever, Marcus Allen's TD against the Redskins was pretty unbelievable.......

It was in the Super Bowl, against the favored Redskins, doesn't get any greater than that......
Meh, plays like that happen every week in football: a player goes one way, gets flooded back to the other side, and they get a big run out of it. However, seeing a defender deflect a pass that is 3 yards OUT OF BOUNDS, to a teammate, is incredible.

I definitely get all that, I appreciate the athleticism and the concentration it takes to pull something like that off. But it wasn't a designed play or anything it was just a great heads up reactionary play on the ball that worked out perfectly.

That is every bit the criteria for one of the greatest plays ever.
Personally, I don't think so. In my mind when I think of the greatest plays I think of like a game winning trick play that was executed to perfection or something like that, not a great defensive play on the ball or a spectacular catch. Just my opinion.

Nice play, I think he showed great field awareness and athleticism. I like seeing plays like these because certain things can't be taught, some guys are very sound in their technique and others make up for it with plays like this.

and you can also act like your fumbling the ball forward to gain extra yards right? No...There is a penalty for that look at the video again he touches the ball and throws it towards his teamate forward, he didn't just deflect it..

You guys are fooled by anything lmao. So let me get this straight as long as you "deflect" you can intentionally throw it anywhere you want? Why aren't people throwing hail mary's to their linebacks then lmao
There is something wrong with the way your brain operates.

I think it would have been challenged, and it would have been ruled as a forward pass somehow.
What the hell is wrong with you people? I mean, seriously. A forward fucking pass? HOW? The guy never has possession of the damn football. You can't pass the football without possession of the football. What is so hard to understand?

This is no different from when a D-Lineman deflects a QB's pass at the line and the ball goes back towards the QB and gets picked off. If anyone thinks that would be a forward pass from the D-Lineman, they're fucking retarded.

The only way the refs screw over the defense on this play in the NFL is if they find some reason to object to the defender being out-of-bounds when he deflects it. No way it's a fuckin forward pass from someone who doesn't even have possession of the fuckin football though. LMFAO.

1. The ball is out of bounds, why even deflect it when no one else is near it?
2. He was facing and looking towards his teamate who he tipped the ball towards, if he did it blindly then I may be less skeptical but he clearly tipped/passed the ball towards him.

Its common sense guys, he had the mindset to tip and pass the ball to his teamate and it would of been a illegal forward pass (maybe a different name for it, I remember a dolphin fumbling the ball the same way last year)..You guys are acting like he did it unknowingly without the intention to pass it forward to his teamate...What the hell is he even doing out of bounds tipping the ball when the play should of been over then?

Please, stop talking. You have NO CLUE as to what you are talking about. The play is 100% legal, as indicated by NO FLAG on the play.

I mean....really? How dumb are some of you?

Lol @ illegal forward pass. They're on defense. I think u guys mean forward lateral but u would hav to hav to hav possession of the ball for that to be the case. Which would b possession and feet down in bounds so u guys r hella stupid.

- YOU CANNOT PASS THE FOOTBALL, IN ANY DIRECTION, UNLESS YOU HAVE POSSESSION. IT'S IMPOSSIBLE.

- DEFENSIVELY, YOU CAN BAT THE FOOTBALL IN ANY DIRECTION BECAUSE YOU DO NOT HAVE POSSESSION OF IT.

- YOU CANNOT PURPOSELY ADVANCE THE FOOTBALL ON A FUMBLE, BUT YOU NEED POSSESSION TO FUMBLE THE FUCKING FOOTBALL.

END OF DISCUSSION.
