How will guys know if she actually took the pill? Wait....when they see her 9 months later with a child in arms. We need to teach celibacy and abstinence (true responsibility) instead of using band-aid approaches. I am sure the athiests, evolutionists and people who believe humans are simple animals are going to have a field day with this so go ahead...:)

oh coy's scenario will correct for children ages 12-17 on a daily basis if this pill gets approved over the counter...

Maybe I am missing something here. As far as I know you can walk into many of the pharmacies around my area and get this pill no questions asked, for free, today. What is changing?

I oppose this simply because RU-486 and the Pill can have serious health consequences if misused (for example the extremely high cancer risk if women smoke along with taking the pill, instances of hemorrhaging with the morning after pill, etc.)

I don't trust the average American teen to understand that you can't take Plan-B for every accident, you can't smoke while on the pill, you shouldn't take Plan B if you smoke, and you shouldn't take estrogen abortifacients or other EC drugs if you have a history of certain illnesses or chronic conditions.

In other countries where children do crazy shit like read books and learn in school, teens can be given the responsibility to choose about taking potentially harmful medications. That is the exact reason some drugs are OTC and some aren't.

The average Adult American Woman can't even live up to those standards.

shouldn't we be encouraging the uneducated irresponsible dumb asses not to reproduce instead of the other way around?

If *possibly* encouraging them not to reproduce means potentially giving them cancer and causing serious health problems, I think it is still something that should at least be overseen by the doctor.

My fear is that our bright young McDonalds generation will pop these like aspirin, and the health risks could be a worse problem than possible pregnancies.

^^And what is the likelihood teenage girls and women will misuse these pills? What percentage smoke? I have no idea but I'd imagine it is a small percentage.

Women that take birth control pills and smoke have an increased chance of getting cancer too. But shit, you have an increased chance of cancer from consuming lots of aspartame.

But again it’s a small percentage. It’s a weak argument to be against it simply because there will be some that misuse it. Should all cough medicine be over the counter simply because of meth-heads that use it's ingrediants?

The wal mart out here limits the amount of medicine you can purchase, and the limit is based according to a certain ingredient (I forgot which one.)

As far as the africa thing, you have to understand something. The continent STILL has a large prostitution problem, and the people hit hardest with hiv/aids are in places that lack a basic infrastructure OR have little to no money devoted to education. Again, celibacy and abstinence is teh way to go. Sex ed and condoms will slow the bleeding.

^^I'm aware about their living conditions and in many of those places they've been trying to promote celibacy and abstinence, which has done nothing and in many cases, actually does more damage, rather than giving out condoms and promoting safe sex.

US studies have even proven that promoting celibacy and abstinence is ineffective with the youth.

Obviously not having sex is the safest approach. But let's be real- people are always going to have sex. It's a natural instinct, can’t stop it.
