Since I haven't been here for a few weeks, I just want to touch up on a few things about the NFL draft..

First of all.. I think the Niners made the right choice in selecting Patrick Willis with their first round pick. Hopefully he will beat out Derek Smith and Jeff Ulbrich and they'll get dropped from the roster by this time next year. Not that I don't like them, I just don't think they're good enough to have chances at starting on that defense anymore. Willis is very fast and will cover a lot of ground. That revamped defense should cause some problems for offenses this season.

When they traded away next year's first round selection and picked Joe Staley I was a little steamed because O-Line is not a big need. But after they suckered the Colts into giving up their first round selection next year for our second rounder it didn't seem so bad. Now we just have to hope the Colts do worse than we do so we can get a better pick LOL. But I understand the pick and I realize that Nolan and McCloughan were looking to the future and O-Line is always a concern with Nolan.

The trade for D-Jack was a steal. That's all there is to that.

As for the raiders.. I think they had a pretty good draft. They got some guys that will help them in the future.. I don't know about the immediate future though.. They took Russell, as expected. Personally I would have gone with Brady Quinn, but we'll have to wait and see if they made the right choice.

I can't wait for football season.

Oh and Tony.. Before you ask.. I was on vacation. I already know you're gonna question my absence, so I figured I'd go ahead and address it before you bothered.

Yeah I was wondering where you've been... But I wasn't going to question your absense. That's your business dog!

And about the draft... I gotta keep it real...the Niners had a damn good draft. In my opinion they should be favored to win the NFC West. They swept Seattle last year and the Niners have a better team this year especially on the defensive side of the ball. Man if they don't make the playoffs this year I know Niner fans are going to be pissed off. If Alex Smith throws more TD's than Int's the Niners "will" make the playoffs.

The Raiders had a pretty good draft too... We'll have to see if the Russell pick pays off. If Michael Bush is healthy defenses better look out... We didn't spend too many draft picks on the o-line so hopefully this new coaching will help the o-line out by implenting these new blocking schemes.

So we'll see but I think both teams (Niners and Raiders) had good drafts.

I was just joking.. You normally ask where I've been or insinuate that I was ducking someone or something when I don't post for a while.. That's why I said that.

Yeah but there's already been talk of them seeming overconfident, and that's never a good sign. They finished off the season real strong in Denver last year, and they seem to be feeding off of that and the good additions they've made this offseason, but overconfidence will destroy them. I'm sure Nolan will stress that point and hopefully they don't come out cocky and end up being a disappointment.

Personally I don't think that would happen, but you never know.

I know I will, but then again I'm pissed whenever they lose a single game. I wasn't expecting them to be a playoff favorite until next season, but they seem to be a trendy pick this year. A lot of people have them as their sleeper.

This should be the year Alex grows as an NFL QB. From what they're saying, they will be allowing Alex to pass more often and make more decisions on the field in order to ease the load on Frank Gore. The 3rd year is normally the year that a QB shows what he's got.. Now's the time to show what he's got.

The only thing about that is Alex is younger than most QBs in their third year. He's gonna be 23, which is the age of a lot of rookie QBs. So if he doesn't put up a stellar season I won't be too mad. He has to build off of last season though and show more progress.. It doesn't have to be 3,600 yards with 25 TDs and only 10 INTs or anything like that, but his stats should be at least a little better than last year.

I agree. He may move up the depth chart pretty quick.

Agreed.

I think the 49ers should be the team to beat in the NFC West.... I am convinced after seeing them sweep Seattle last season. Y'all are loaded on the defensive side of the ball... plus Jackson may let y'all in on some of their plays. The 49ers should have a real good season next year. I think the only question is at the receiver position... but other than that y'all should be able to dominate your division.

Patrick Willis looks like an animal.

Yeah on paper they look like a legit playoff team already, but that doesn't always mean success. But Mike Nolan is a very good coach and he seems to prepare the team very well, so they should do well.

And yeah receiver is the only "weak" spot on the team right now, and that's only because Darrell Jackson is not a big guy and he is injury-prone. Lelie would be good but he plays like a female. Battle is a decent #2. Jason Hill looked great in college, but we all know that doesn't mean too much. Although I've been reading really good things about Brandon Williams. Apparently his only problem last year was route running, and they've been saying he is lightyears better this year. It looks like he's been working real hard.. So he and Jason Hill could be surprises for us.

My guess would be Ronald Curry... I wonder who's going to be number 3 and 4. We seem pretty weak in that spot to be honest.

I BELIVE WILLIAMS WILL START AT TWO, BUT I WOULD LIKE HIGGENS TO GET SOME ACTION. MY OPINION IS THE RAIDERS SHOUD'VE TRIED TO GET STALEY BY TRADING UP, BUT MILLER WAS A GOOD PICK UP

^Mike Williams with the pulled hammy? I don't even think he's a lock to make the team. We should have drafted a receiver instead of a tight end with that number 2 pick since we traded Moss. We'll see what's up with Higgins.

I think teams will bring that 8th man down and force us to pass. We don't have any speedy deep threats to stretch the field.

Oh man I can't wait for football season. It's been a long time since the 49ers were looking good in the off season but that time has come! 49ers have had the best off season by far.

It'll be interesting to see what happens this year in the NFC West. Don't forget about the STL Rams, Seahawk fans still think about them. I don't know if this year Hawks fans will think more about the Rams or the Niners, but just don't count STL out it's not a SF vs SEA for the division.

(PS it is OK to forget about Arizona)

Arizona is always a threat on paper. Then, around week 4, they're forgotten. Hopefully that doesn't change this year.

But judging from what I've read on Seahawk forums, most of their fans are worried only about SF. I know the actual Seahawk team is worried about everyone in the division as of right now.

I have a feeling the NFC West is not going to be "the worst division in the league" after this year.
