so wouldnt that make ICP the number 1 independent artist in the world?
ICP's through Fontana, hell, so is Necro I believe.

And yea, Miller's new one is thru Fontana as well...though from what I gather an "issue" with the independent notion can stem from the fact that someone from Atlantic is working the record. Also, a guess, that maybe they purposely had Miller drop an "indie" release to build buzz and press before they officially drop a major label release.

A distro deal is not the same as being signed to a record lable, when you sign to a lable they own you and all your shit. When you have a distro deal you own all your own shit [in this case tech & trav] and the lable distributes it for you for an assigned percentage. 2 Totally different things. Tech is Indy, he owns strange with Trav. Distribution is just for physical cds in stores and such [a small part of the business]

Tech's not independent then either. He's distributed through Fontana, which is a branch off of Universal... Funny enough, I think Mac Miller is distributed through Fontana as well.

I will keep my source to my self for the obvious reasons but I will just say honestly that they are not affiliated with Strange in any way.

Atlantic has been paying money to MTV to push this album behind the scenes and calling it indie. Its gonna be real funny that this dude just sold almost 150k and he has to pay back atlantic for the money they threw at mainstream media to market it. Then he goes and thanks MTV for giving him the love when they were basically his hooker he paid for. And the campaigns for twitter followers is lame to me. I don't mind just asking for followers but cmon the dude gained a million in no time and there are marketing schemes to make that happen.

Just look at the word independent for what it really means in music. Can you indecently grow a fan base without being dependent on someone or something else to do it? Mac Miller is clearly the definition of dependent on Mainstream media to grow a fan base of little white boys and girls age 10 and older. The show in phoenix didn't impress anyone and really this dude is just the new asher roth, he will be forgotten in no time.

With that said, I am glad he is getting his dough however he can.

I think it is more impressive to see Strange Music grow from the bottom up like we all got the chance to see. It took years upon years of grinding, doors being slammed in their face, and FTI campaigns to get to the point where they are now. To see a "mac miller" come in and instantly make numbers like he did, it's not as impressive as Tech's accompolishments. I don't follow mac miller, but his road to get to where he's at was not in the same ball park as Tech's

uhh...im pretty sure he got those numbers before anyone mentioned him getting those numbers :eyecross:
No sir. 2 months before that album dropped they already knew and were promoting that he would be the biggest selling indie release in the digital era. And the sheep...I mean people buy it because they hear that and wanna get behind his "movement". The part that irks me is that he is acting like he is spearheading this indie rap world when he IS not independent.

Jedi/Kain have they stopped doing this now ? I know I asked on previous releases but its looking to be that way.
