I'm Con like a muthafucca. Fucc tha death penalty man. They shouldn't have the right to take no ones life. If someone has to die for a crime I think the person or family of the victim should be allowed to carry out the execution. At least have the option to give the life sentence if they please. In a crime where there's multiple families involved ie: oklahoma city bombing- they can get together to determine the offensers fate.

I will agree with you and say con. Not because of any moral reasons but because in amerika I believe our system is completely fucked and innocent men/women are being executed and this includes mostly poor individuals who do not have the money to pay for a real lawyer and get stuck with some bunk public defender.

con. the death penalty is racist and doesn't work. its supposed purpose is to deter crime, but we can see that doesn't work too well. in fact, im pretty sure that the states with the death penalty have higher crime rates than those without. and i'd much rather see a criminal sit in a jail cell the rest of his life than get killed

i'm pro death penalty, but con to America's current form of it...too many mistakes and it costs too damn much, a death penalty shouldn't cost 6 fiGures to carry out

Con. how does killing someone prove that killing someone is wrong? that's not a punishment. the point of punishment is prison...thats why u have it. Killing someone is just ridiculous, and hypocritical. I mean, what are we, the only Western society in the world that still has the death penalty? what does that teach these criminals?

Con,
It's racist, discriminatroy against the poor & mentally challenged, it's statistically not a detterent to capital crimes, its more expensive than life in prision (when you include all the costs from the appeals process), it violates the 8th & 15th amendment, numerous innocent victims are put to death each year (which is irreversable), what kind of civilized gov't legally and methodically kills its own citizens (the death penalyty is the most calculated type of 1st degree murder out there), it is purely vengence not justice...

go to www.nodeathpenaltynow.org
or also do a google search for CEDP (the campaign to end the deathpenalty) for more info...

Some of you had some good points. I think we all agree w/ the fact that our system is fucced up. I think it's hyprocrital to say it's wrong to kill and then turn around and do it themselves. I don't think our system should have that much power. Then again what if the person is innocent but can't afford a good lawyer. These are a few reasons why I'm against the death penalty.

the death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment as defined by the constitution. i dont understand how someone can be pro life and pro death penalty at the same time ON MORAL GROUNDS. laughable to say the least.

The McLickasnatch, what do you have to say about the innocent people who are executed on death row, who were never granted their appeals process (even though they have overwhelming evidence which will prove their innocence, especially convicts who did not have DNA testing available during their trials, however the racist/discriminatory Judge refuses to re-open the case for review)... How many innocent people 'put to rest' justifies killing the 'guilty killers'? What about kids convicted and sentenced when they were under 18 when they were 'convicted' of their crime, how about the number of people on death row who are mentally handi-capped and should be institionalized rather than 'put to rest'

What about your commander & cheif who attacked a soviergn nation which never attacked us to kill innocent women and children? Me, because I'm against the death penalty (& above punitive childish vengence B.S.) I think a reasonable sentece would be life in prison, not the death penalty...

Look at certain countries in the middle east where they enforce extreme, public displayed capital punishment. Such punishments as chopping off your hand in the middle of the town square if you are caught stealing. They have open markets with gold jewelry sitting out in the open, you think anyone steals anything? Capitol punishment is a very effective crime deterrent. However I am against the death penalty...why? because in our system it is very ineffective and has many errors in it.
