I want some opinions on this.. what would yall think if E-40 or Ya Boy started doing songs about current events and political shit? Would yall still support em or would u be turned off?

I ask because i think thats what we are missing at the moment, yeah ok, kickin it, clubbin, thizzin its all been said and done over and over again, but does our music today even hold an important message to it? wheres the substance?? when im sitting and writing a song i keep the message im putting in it at the forefront of my mind.. but it seems today that many songs are relying on the "feel good" "dont care" type of vibe and the folx who listen to it get that apathetic sense to them too... where are the 2pacs? the paris's?? i figure if you have an audience and the capability to be heard then you would use that gift to lace game on folx about shit thats going on..

opinions?

That's real. Only thing is that most of these new rappers aren't knowledgable enough to give a REAL message.

Me personally I like the rappers who know how to blend the street shit with some intelligence.

But then..whats "political" to one man..might not be to the next....

I agree. But there is STILL Bay music with substance, but you're not going to hear it on Yellow Bus Radio, or on The Chop Shop, or see it on MTV Jams or 106 & Park...

I think theres a place for every type of hip hop, and substance and politics don't really mesh in well with the whole Hyphy-Yellow-Bus-Retard-Thizz thing we got going on right now IMO...

I don't think this is something thats limited to just Bay Area hip hop though, if you look at mainstream rap in general, not a lot of artists that are making thought provoking music are getting a lot of mainstream shine anyways.

I think if the rappers around here blended it in it would be alright, but I kind of like listening to music to get away from all the bullshit in politics.
