LOS ANGELES (AP) ― Police say a 16-year-old boy shot his cousin in the head during a living room squabble over their loyalties to opposing Los Angeles street gangs.
The 22-year-old cousin, whose name is being withheld, is in critical condition at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and he's not expected to survive.
The alleged shooter was arrested and booked for investigation of attempted murder.
The 16-year-old boy acknowledged pulling the trigger, but claimed Wednesday's shooting was an accident, detective David Cortez said.
The teen is allegedly a member of a Harbor City gang, while his cousin allegedly belongs to a Wilmington gang. They were apparently "going back and forth in an argument about each other's gangs," Cortez said.
