Here to set the record straight:
Seen this shit on ESPN: Outside The Lines a couple weeks ago.
He was black. So was she. They WERE NOT caught by a janitor in a bathroom. It was at a party in a hotel, and he, along with 4 (I think) other guys had sex with an OBVIOUSLY inhebriated girl about 17 years of age. SHE then went to the police the next day, saying she had been raped. When police began investigating, they discovered that the party had been videotaped, and saw, in graphic detail, the sex acts along with the oral sex by the 15 year old on Genarlow.
While the jury, during the trial, saw the video, as did many other people, they were forced to decide on TWO seperate charges, that involving the 17 year old (rape) and the 15 year old (child molestation). (This was ALL in the story on page 4...)
What the ESPN story told was how many believe that being that the jury couldn't agree on a guilty verdict for the rape of the 17 year old, they ''made up'' for it with the molestation charge. One juror said she would have sentenced him for the rape (she believed he was guilty), but her co-jurors talked her out of it, saying they would rule guilty on the molestation charge.
This kid was an honor student, a highly touted athlete, a stand-up kid in the community...and he was black. This, I feel, goes to show you that no matter how ''good'' you try to be, in some places, you're still ''second fiddle'' to others...
Sorry for the ramblings...just my two cents.
