There has been some debate as to what success really is for Tech. Some people think it has to do with mainstream fame. Some people think it is when he starts doing collabs with so called "major" artists and producers. Some people think its when he's a multimillionaire. Has the mission been fully accomplished? Not fully, but pretty goddamn close.

Strange Music has made history in the music business. Real history, it has been recognized briefly by everyone, from Jay-Z to Ice Cube. Venue owners, MTV, you name it. Whether or not it has been a sustained trip in the world's lime light is definitely questionable, but it does not define its success.

Let me give you an entirely different perspective that is a bit more detailed than Tech doing a 7 person show in San Diego.

How about cross country trips in Vans, 3 or four guys sleeping on the floor. Guys like Big Nick, Joe, Kaliko, and Kutt. None of these guys are small guys. Big Nick snores pretty loud too, lol. There was no "extra" money, Krizz wasn't officially signed yet, hell he was still the MC at Satin Dolls, where Big Nick, Joe, and Matt were bouncers. Shit Krizz was still living directly next door to me with his mother in a modest duplex. Strange Music was an extremely small budget venture fueled by guys that really believed in it. There were no guarantees for anyone.

Offices on the west coast, touring on the east coast, merchandise sales, shows overseas.

None of it compares to:

Travis O'guin wanting to have a successful venture into the music business and accomplishing it with an MC that deserved it more than anyone.

Tech N9ne getting what he has always deserved and continually getting more. Having his family taken care of with no worries. Taking care of his fans by never shorting them.

Krizz Kaliko getting a deal, dropping his debut album, taking care of his mother, getting married to the girl he always loved and providing for his new baby.

Kutt Kalhoun dropping an album, taking care of his children, having a full page in the source for advertisement for his sophomore album, and not having to stay in street shit to eat.

Joe Vertigo getting a verse on a nationwide album release (mlk) he has been protecting Tech for a long long time and nobody is more alert than he is.

Big Nick and the fellas starting thier company.

Wives and girlfriends getting a chance to exhale because this turned into what everybody said it would.

Wherever Strange Music goes from here, whether it be to the stars or if it folds tomorrow, success was achieved a long time ago.

I feel you on that tip...

if you hear/see and consider the obstacles overcome in the past to get where he is now than I would assume you understand this a hell of a lot more coming from that perspective

if you rode from the beginning than it's common knowledge... but I think alot of the fanbase recently has yet to see it from that angle and struggles to comprehend just how difficult the process was in terms of balancing business, pleasure and family

real talk

Honestly, we all know he's successful. There's no need to reiterate this over and over again just because somebody questions what they're told. I'd rather read a thousand posts of people legitimately trying to find out the absolute truth themselves than I would to watch people polish off balls every time this kinda shit pops off.

what are you talkin about? All this board really does is question his success. Legitimately find out what truth? I just gave you the truth from somebody who was there. Nothing about my post was arrogant or self righteous. I don't need my balls polished off. There has been an attitude on this board lately like they have no clue how to promote, or do a video, you name it. being around during those days, I heard the same shit. He aint never gonna do this because, and he will never make any real money because....So I decided to post that because some of these folks need perspective.

Very good post.

That's an exaggeration though.
Yeah the fact that more people know who icp is than tech says a lot... I had 15 cats over at my house we was all fittin to go out for st. pats day and the subject of tech came up and they started askin me was he really any good.... This is in kansas might i add! I said yall aint never heard any of his shit? Some said they heard it before but they could not name one track. I brought up commercials cause i know i seen mlk and everready quite a few times, nope never seen em... I bring up alpha dog, they asked was it a b movie? I told em a lot of techs shit was in the movie and asked if they ever heard of bruce willis or sharon stone and of course they had but they never seen that movie and they had never heard of jesse james hollywood. Then I say,I bet yall know who ICP is though with disgust and they all said yes.... Techs shit is only reaching a limited few even though the record sells seem good.

Travis O'guin is a faggot. He is the reason Tech tries to please everybody instead of doing what the fuck he wants. Tech doesn't need him anymore.
that's a fuckin joke. and you don't know enough about anything to be able to say that. Tech is definitely more of a people pleaser than Trav is. anyone who knows them will tell you that. Tech loves to see people happy so he will tell you what u wanna hear. Trav is real as real gets.this is exactly what I maean about mothafuckas not knowin shit and poppin off at the lip.

and on the independent tip Strange music has absolutely made music history. it is not an exaggeration.

icp is an entirely different genre of music. plus they had beef wit eminem, they were released by a major label and went platinum, so of course. but Tech and strange have never really had a major label push them.

I appreciate what you said, and I don't think this thread is self-righteous. What I'm saying is when someone brings heat as to what's really going down with Strange and how they're doing, someone comes along and exclaims high from the mountain top that they're well off. The last time someone questioned them, I made a "mandatory" phone call to Travis to settle my side of the argument.

In my world, I answer questions with fact and honesty, and then I provide more details pending the disbelief of the people listening/viewing. It's honestly one of the worst qualities I see coming from that side of Strange Music.

I don't need proof of wealth or how much their lives have changed. The music and their attitudes say enough as is.

There's this overwhelming need to prove people wrong, but why fucking bother when you're networking 30 mil a year?

I don't mind seeing Tech pay for a feature here and there because artists get paid for their work. As far as beats go, I would bet he is gonna continue to use lesser known beat makers because what some of these cats want for one of these beats is rediculous. I remember back in the day when Tech was touring wit Jay-z and Tech was pretty close to buying a pharell beat but that shit was rediculously expensive. if it aint a hit its a supreme waste of dough. Maybe he will make a star out of someone. They all started somewhere.

I love tech using lesser known producers.

MLK and Killer have some of the dopest beats ive ever heard lol

Tech has clearly been a success, he ALWAYS kills his verses and comes hard as fuck on everything he does. Alot of people recognize him as an amazing artist, and those who don't are the ones missing out so gives a fuck about them?

He is making money and putting out REAL shit. listen to the last verse on I love you but fuck you, thats as real as music gets.

tech n9ne all day god damnit

I'm sorry I respectfully disagree with you Midwest.

I would love to see Tech blow the minds of the mainstream, however if it takes giving in and relying on a established "name" in the industry to do it, it would kill him inside a little bit. How would you really feel if you saw Tech on t.v. killin a T-Pain song, or if Lil Wayne reached out to Tech for a feature. Nevermind.............I already know what we would be saying, that Tech been colder then all them niggas for a long time. Essentially it would have taken someone else to put him on, that just aint Tech for real.
