I'm glad Jay Rock didn't sign with Strange. If so he wouldn't sell. Nobody on Strange sells besides for Tech. Look at Kutt & Lynch. Two good rappers but they aint selling shit. If either Kutt or Brotha Lynch were on a bigger label and the got marketed I'm willing to bet they could go gold....and not sell 3000-5000 copies like they are doing now.

lol what do you call it changing style to attract a bigger crowd of white trash kids?
I don't know about changing his style. The first time I ever saw Tech N9ne was on Sway & King Tech's "Anthem" video and he was wearing a straight jacket and had his face in some water looking at the camera and rapping. Seems like pretty much the same style. And whether it's Tech N9ne or any other rapper, white people are the largest consumers of gangsta rap, and basically any real rap music, so I don't see how he could be selling out to white people because then you're just basically saying every rapper is selling out to white people.

That was still after celcius, calm before the storm, and the worst. I don't know if you are up on his real old shit but if u are u will see the difference
... actually, if you were up on his "old shit," then you might realize that if anything, his time with Midwestside (thus Calm, Worst & Celcius) was the "selling out" as he was doing shit like Welcome to my Asylum and I Can Get Grim when he was with IcyRoc prior to Don Juan entering the picture.

As for those commenting about Strange's production, you do realize that the artists have creative control... right? It was Brotha Lynch that brought Axis into the fold, and Cognito brought in Freddy Machete. Those aren't producers that were pushed onto them by Strange. The only one that might have been "pushed" onto them might have been Seven, but both spoke highly of him so they clearly wanted to work with him. Now... try again...

As for the actual topic, I say good. At least Rock's album will get released, instead of being shelved due to label politics. That should make you happy, no?

Watts rapper Jay Rock has inked a deal with Tech N9Ne's Kansas City, Missouri, independent powerhouse label, Strange Music for a multi-record deal.

The two rappers decided to enter into a deal together after a pair of successful business collaborations.

On September 15th, Jay Rock hit the road on the "Tech N9Ne Independent Grind Tour" with rappers like E-40, Glasses Malone, Krizz Kaliko, Kutt Calhoun, Big Scoob and others.

Jay Rock was also featured on Tech N9Ne's independent album The Gates Mixed Plate, in addition to an upcoming DJ Whoo Kid mixtape with TechN9Ne.

The first release under the new deal with be Jay Rock's Strange Music full-length debut, titled Follow Me Home.

“Man, I'm excited about this," Jay Rock said in a statement. "Tech and Strange approached us once I became a free agent and we went to KC to see first-hand what we had been missing and saw why they're the #1 independent rap label. The word had spread about me leaving Warner Bros. and I was getting offers left & right from majors wanting to sign me, but in the end, Dude Dawg [Top Dawg CEO] and I had no doubts that Strange had the perfect situation for us."

Jay Rock, along with Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul and Schoolboy Q form the Black Hippy Movement, a group described as N.W.A meets the Pharcyde.

"I was hyped when I got the news that Jay Rock and TDE decided to go with Strange instead of any of the other many labels that were tugging at them," said Tech N9ne. “I knew that Jay Rock, being the hardcore artist that he is would add another wonderful dimension to our Strange roster. Strange and TDE all day, baby!"

Jay Rock's Strange Music debut Follow Me Home is due in stores sometime in the Spring of 2011.

I'll be honest, I've been listening to Tech since The Calm Before the Storm, and the biggest difference between then and now is he's not on shitty Don Juan beats anymore. He still raps about the same stuff except he stopped smoking weed after Anghellic. I don't know how anyone can say his classic shit like Questions and Planet Rock aren't on some weird shit. If you actually bought a copy of The Worst 2k edition, you'd see he's got his face painted on the inside cover.

The nigga ain't changed, niggas got scared because of the cover of Anghellic and started hating.
