I spoke with Bosko about this back in 2000 and he said that you needed a "Mono Sawtooth sound" to be honest the best way to go is to create your own patch. Sure you can sound like Roger if you get that patch but you should try to come with your own sound and style. Both Dj Quik and Bosko have a unique sound that no one has really copied yet. Bosko got his talkbox on the Kanye Workout plan song. I dont think the Roger patch would have sounded as good as Boskos. Plus most people think they will just get that Roger sound and BAM! I sound like Roger. Guess what you won't. You have to practice that shit to really sound good. I have been doing it for about 7 years and it is still difficult sometimes. Anyway man Good luck. I will help you anyway I can. Just holla at me.

... and MisterGroove is in this joint... gonna set your funk free with his talkbox sounds and wonders!

Sup Peeps!

Yes, Roger used those keyboards as mentioned and also the Golden Throat talkbox but that was years ago for that model talkbox... later he just started making his own talkboxes to fit his needs.

The TalkBox is a instrument in of itself... you have to treat it as such thus requires you to practice those keyboard playing and learning those notes and scales and the whole 9 yards. Knowing this will better your sound and pronunciation will be flawless... just practice is what I'm really saying here. I've been playing that talkbox for 17 years now and I still love that sound.

I use what Roger used... a yamaha dx100 with a pa amplifier and a custom made talkbox I designed that gives off Roger's signature sound excellently... I designed it that way as a tribute to Roger when I play it. My whole style of playing it is modeled on how Roger expressed it and all the little vocal things he did with it. If you wanna learn his approach to it just really listen to him and what he is really doing with it and you will get it faster.

I too also use "Roger's parameters" from his Dx100 and it's merely a SAWTOOTH sound thats been modified. But you can use any of these Saw created sounds to re-create his sound from his old songs... found on the Dx100.

FM Sawtooth
Lyrisyn
Hard Brass
Mono Lead
Brass 1,2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

But the one you want is the FM Sawtooth, play with the sound, modify it and discover for yourself your own sound and go with it but mainly have fun with it is you're doing with music. Music should be fun, so keep the fun part in mind always the money factor is good but ain't worth it if it ain't fun!!!

@ Jay Tee or who ever can help.
I know you've been on quite a few tracks with the talkbox.

What You Do (Fingazz)
Baby Girl / Every Minute (Magic)
All Night / La Raza (Roger Troutman)
... and so on

I was wonder what equipment they use: from the talkbox to the keyboard and sample.

Banshee Talkbox
Helis Talkbox......
Mini Moog (Keyboard)
Yamaha DX100 (Keyboard).....

I know that toward the end of Roger's career he used the Yamaha DX100, but not sure what kind of talkbox.

Already tried the studio forum a while back and they didn't really give me any good info.
Try the Banshee-Box and connect it to an analog Korg- or Roland-Keyboard (the ones with wooden front). This is my Style of Equipment...it works very well.
