T.I. Remains Jailed on Weapons Charges

ATLANTA (AP) — T.I. was ordered Monday to remain in custody on federal weapons charges until a bail hearing later this week. The chart-topping rapper was arrested Saturday, hours before his scheduled performance at the BET Hip Hop Awards. Federal authorities say he tried to buy three machine guns and two silencers from a man cooperating with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives.

T.I., born Clifford Harris, appeared briefly in federal court Monday. Wearing a black shirt and black jeans, he entered the courtroom expressionless and scanned the crowd filled with family, supporters and media.

The government wants to keep the 27-year-old rapper in custody as the case proceeds, but his attorneys planned to argue for his release on bond at a hearing scheduled for Friday.

A federal firearms dealer contacted the ATF this month about a man seeking to buy a machine gun without registering the weapon, according to a criminal complaint filed Saturday in U.S. District Court in Atlanta.

After attempting to purchase several machine guns from an undercover ATF agent, the unnamed individual — who said he had been a bodyguard for T.I. since July 2007 — was arrested. He began cooperating with the government and said that he was buying the machine guns and silencers for Harris, a convicted felon, the complaint said.

T.I. ended up winning two awards at Saturday's show.

Maybe its better for him that he got arrested before he had the chance to do somethin stupid. Who knows if he didnt get arrested what he woulda done and if he woulda gotten caught.

yeah...that sucks..niggas gotta move one on one with them deals...dont go through hella people...

fucked up to see homie fall straight into the trap..thats how they want us ballin' black rappers..locked up..funds forfeited...i wish the best for theman but that does look pretty bad

what trips me is ti claimed to be a dope dealer all this time and aint have a hook on guns that he trusted from the hood by now? hes just now gettin smashed on it?

that sucks but he should have had a 9th party member make the purchase with no traceback to who he was and even in court it would be disputable, i wonder why they dont think this out? much less get on a phone and speak works indicating a understanding of anyhting pertaining to the subject...fuck..im not even a big time dealer and you cant get me on that..

LMFAO!....

Let's say T.I. does infact collect guns. Dude is still a convicted felon in possession and not to mention all (im assuming) the guns were not registered....All of the above mentioned are still crimes and sorry to say TI will get time, [edit] which brings up a good debate. With all the details slowly but surely coming forth, about how much time do you all think TI will be getting if convicted?!
