In my opinion.......everybody that has worked with me and went on to do their "own thing" has not been able to reach the same standard of product that we were doing when I was running shit. But that's the problem......everybody wants to be a chief and nobody wants to be an indian.
Oh well....I move forward and so do they. At least some of them think they are.
Yes I would agree. With Greedy BD and some of the old FTS people, they haven't even come close. Syko I don't feel has come close. Byrdie's new album is pretty good, I like it a lot, but still not at all close to Poetic Epidemic. With all of these people it's really about the production.
I remember some guy working at Sam Goody Northgate telling me one time something of the nature that D-Sane is just one of the biggest pricks you could ever meet, working with him is hell, it's either his way or the highway, people only work with him b/c of his beats etc. I don't know who he knew or where he was getting this information, but he definitely had a strong dislike for D-Sane and I remember thinking when he was telling me that 'well that's great but I mean if I walk into your store and I see a local CD on there w/ D-Sane production then I am going to buy this album and give you my money, if it does not have D-Sane production on it I am going to be a lot more skeptical."
As far as I'm concerned with all due respects to the lyracists (and producers) who have graced SLRs albums over the years, what sets SLR apart from every other label in Washington State is simple: B-E-A-T-S. I don't care if D-Sane really is the biggest asshole in the WA State, he makes the best beats and therefore, will probably bring out the best in who he works with.
