LOS ANGELES -- Police are hoping newly released surveillance video will help lead to the arrest of a killer.

On May 6 about 1:30 p.m., Demetrius Meriwether, 20, of Los Angeles, was eating at a hamburger stand when he was shot.

The shooting occurred at approximately 1:20 p.m. at Jim's Burgers in the 200 block of West Adams Boulevard.

Authorities say the gunman walked into the restaurant, approached the victim and shot him in the head, then ran away.

"By all indications, the victim in this shooting was specifically targeted," said LAPD Lt. Mike Menza.

"The shooter ran right out of the restaurant immediately. This whole thing went down in about less than a second."

About two or three shots were fired, according to Menza.

The motive for the killing is not known.

According to a witness, a confrontation took place inside the restaurant right before the shooting took place.

There were about a dozen customers inside the restaurant at the time of the shooting, including women and children.

The suspect is described as a black man in his 20s, who is about 6 feet tall.

He left in a silver or gray Dodge Charger with chrome rims.

Anyone with information was asked to call Newton Division homicide Detective T. Thompson at (323) 846-6556.
