Fuck Macs. They are only hyped up right now because of the recent popularity surrounding the I-Pod. Simple as that. It's all about marketing.

They are only hyped up "right now"? They've been doin' it since before the iPod. The iPod was released in 2001, the "Bondi Blue" iMac was released in 1998. I mean, it's time to do your history homework here, fam. Apple started a new trend and got a shit load of business 3 years before the first iPod was even released. Even then, the iPod BOOM didn't take place until a few years after the first one was released. A year strong is hype, 10 years strong is game.

So, with that said, the iPod absolutely had an effect on how consumers viewed Apple products. HOWEVER, the creation of the iMac (3 years before the first iPod) is responsible for the beginning of a very successful decade.

I sold computers straight out of High School in 2000, and Apple was moving many more units out of my store at that point than HP and Compaq. The ONLY big competitor at that point was the Sony Vaio. Even then, anybody going in for something related to music, graphic design, video editing, etc. copped Apple products.

Yeah, but it's 2008 now and the PC is right there with the Mac and even beyond the Mac if you include software availability. There's just much more software available for the PC (same with hardware devices), it's just a lot more flexible and that's now translating to the Pro-audio scene. Audio companies are realizing that the PC is just as good for music, if not better.

Macs remind me of gaming consoles. They make their own shit like accessories specifically designed for their computers, basically eliminating competition from 3rd party products. Or atleast it makes 3rd party products seem like absolute shit in comparison. It's kind of like choosing between buying a MadCatz Playstation2 controller or an Offical Sony Playstation2 controller. Your most likely going to forkout the extra cash and buy the official product. So their intention is to force you to buy their name brand shit at way higher prices. That's why I like PC better because you get a lot more options interms of 3rd party assesories and you can create your OWN setups and still be considered high quality and fully compatible, all at a reasonable price.

Actually, most Apple accessories aren't made by Apple...they are made FOR Apple. Companies like Harman Kardon, JBL, Bose, and M-Audio make sound accessories. For storage you have Iomega, G-Tech, Verbatim, and Lacie. For Video you have Pinnacle, Black Magic, and Belkin. For graphics they have NVIDIA GEFORCE and ATI RADEON (just like you can get for a PC). RAM for a Mac can be bought anywhere. Some doesn't work as well as others, but you can still get it. I mean, I can go on.

The shitty thing about having so many 3rd party accessories is, a lot of those 3rd party companies say they make quality shit when they really don't. You still have to get the BEST shit when you build a PC, because if you don't, you're going to realize that you get what you pay for. That statement is true in all aspects of life. If you try to cut corners and be cheap, you're going to be disappointed. It might still be cheaper, even with the most expensive parts, to build a PC. But don't think for a second Apple makes its own shit. They have well respected companies with great track records making shit for Apple. I mean, they do make some of their own accessories, but a lot of their stuff is done by other companies.

When it comes to electronics, most intelligent people will buy from a company they know that makes quality products. So yes, in part it is name recognition...but it's also track record. The people at Apple are smart because they fuck with some of the best companies in that business.
