the card hasnt even been officially

Lyle Beerbohm vs. Shinya Aoki official for "Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley"

Lightweight contender Lyle Beerbohm (16-1 MMA, 5-1 SF) vs. DREAM champion Shinya Aoki (26-5 MMA, 0-1 SF) is now official for "Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley," which takes place April 9.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) passed along news of the bout earlier this week, and Showtime and Strikeforce executives today made it official.

The event takes place at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, and the event's main card, including a title fight between welterweight champ Nick Diaz and challenger Paul Daley, airs on Showtime.

Aoki and Beerbohm have two things in common: a love of colorful shorts, and a need for redemption in Strikeforce.

Aoki, whose belt won't be on the line, made his promotional debut this past April at the CBS-televised "Strikeforce: Nashville" event and faced champion Gilbert Melendez. In a one-sided and largely dull affair, Aoki was controlled by the Cesar Gracie protege en route to a unanimous-decision loss. The fighter now known as "The Baka Survivor" rebounded with overseas wins over Tatsuya Kawajiri, Marcus Aurelio and Yokthai Sithoar (all were non-title bouts). But he was knocked out cold in his most recent appearance, a mixed-rules bout against kickboxer Yuichiro Nagashima at DREAM "Dynamite!! 2010."

Meanwhile, Beerbohm is looking to erase the memory of his most recent fight, a unanimous-decision loss to Pat Healy this past month that signified his first professional setback in 17 fights. In his previous Strikeforce appearances, Beerbohm posted notable victories over Rafaello Oliveira, Duane Ludwig and Vitor "Shaolin" Ribeiro.

The latest "Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley" card now includes:

* Champ Nick Diaz vs. Paul Daley (for welterweight title)
* Champ Gilbert Melendez vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri (for lightweight title)
* Mike Kyle vs. Gegard Mousasi
* Shinya Aoki vs. Lyle Beerbohm
* K.J. Noons vs. TBA*

* - Not officially announced

damn that card is so dope. Diaz, Kawajiri, Aoki. Stacked. Diaz is about to take this though everyone is acting like Daley is gunna finish him when Daley couldn't even finish Kos. Diaz boxing is so crisp and on the ground he will submit him easily. Nick Diaz dosen't throw power shots because he dosen't need to not cuz he can't.

Dude, Daley couldn't finish Kos because he was on his back the entire fight. Daley won't be on his back very much(if at all) vs Diaz. Nick's boxing and bjj are sick, but his wrestling is straight DOO DOO!!

WAR DIAZ THO!

I haven't heard anything lately. They said they were going to start showing all of them but I saw a tweet from a guy at HDNet a couple weeks ago that said they weren't planning on it but they're open to doing it. Maybe since they added Takaya to the undercard today they'll show em

Broken hand takes Kyle out of fight with Mousasi at "Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley"

A very recent broken hand has forced light-heavyweight Mike Kyle (18-8-1 MMA, 2-3-1 SF) to withdraw from a fight next Saturday with former champ Gegard Mousasi (30-3-1 MMA, 2-1 SF) at "Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley."

Strikeforce official Mike Afromowitz today confirmed the news to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) after an initial report from MMAFighting.

Afromowitz said the search for a replacement opponent is underway.

The bout was billed as a title eliminator for the right to face mewly minted titleholder Dan Henderson. It's unclear whether that designation will hold in light of the withdrawal.

Representatives from American Kickboxing Academy where Kyle trains were unaware of the injury situation when contacted today, but said the fighter suffered a broken hand in his most recent fight this past December against Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva. Pyle lost the fight by knockout after rocking Silva with a punch early in the fight.

The loss broke a four-fight win streak that included a win for the King of the Cage light-heavyweight title.

Mousasi, meanwhile, enjoys a two-fight win streak since the loss of his Strikeforce title to Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal this past August. His representatives were unavailable for comment.

Daley says he battled burnout but now fully prepped for Strikeforce title shot

You may have guessed this already, but Paul Daley (27-9-2 MMA, 2-0 SF) doesn't sugarcoat things. He admits he's wrestled with burnout after back-to-back camps for championship-length fights.

However, the British welterweight said he's pulled out of a temporary rut he hit in the middle of camp for his fight next Saturday with Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz (24-7 MMA, 5-0 SF), and he's fit and ready to go.

Fit, in this case, means in striking distance of 170 pounds, the limit he needs to make to vie for Diaz's belt per athletic commission guidelines.

In his most recent outing against Japanese welterweight Yuya Shirai, Daley missed weight by less than half of a pound and was fined a portion of his purse. It was the fifth time he did so in the past three years of his professional career, which included a high-profile gaffe at UFC 108 during his short-lived tenure in the octagon.

Daley previously told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that there was a valid reason for each of his misses, and this time around, fans can expect him to show up as he did for a performance against Scott Smith in which he earned the Strikeforce "Knockout of the Year" with a first-round KO.

"My weight is fine, but I'm not going to lie – I like to be honest," he said today during a conference call in support of "Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley," which takes place April 9 at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego. "I'm coming from preparing for a five-round fight against Shirai, and then trying to bounce straight into another fight camp for a big fight wasn't ideal, and halfway through the camp, I did feel a little bit drained and had to take a few days off, whether it be physically or mentally."

Despite missing weight for his most recent fight, which took place this past month in British promotion BAMMA, Daley ended it with a bang by knocking out the Japanese fighter in the first round. That performance cleared the way for next Saturday's title shot.

But Daley got no break along the way.

"I would have liked to have a longer period time to prepare specifically for Nick," he said. "But saying that, it has it's positives and its negatives. My fitness is where it should be for a five-round fight, and we just concentrated on the stuff that we would have spread out over 12 weeks. We've just condensed it into the time we have.

"It's been quite intense and things are working as they should be."

Apart from issues on the scale, Daley has been on a tear since he was released from the UFC following his suckerpunch of Josh Koscheck at UFC 113. He stopped all but one of his four opponents in trademark fashion – a hail of strikes.

Diaz, who most recently submitted Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos in late January, may have had the luxury of more leisure in preparing for Daley.

But "Semtex" says he's ready to go.
