Lawler vs. Kennedy Added to Strikeforce: Chicago

An intriguing middleweight bout between military hero Tim Kennedy (13-3 MMA, 3-1 SF) and slugging specialist Robbie Lawler (19-7 MMA, 2-3 SF) has been added to "Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson."

Strikeforce officials today announced the bout via Twitter.

"Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson" takes place July 30 at Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill. The main card, including a Fedor Emelianenko vs. Dan Henderson headliner, airs on Showtime.

Strikeforce brass did not announce if Kennedy vs. Lawler will be part of the main card, but the high-profile matchup seems a certainty to feature on some form of broadcast.

Kennedy looks to build on the strength of a March win over Melvin Manhoef. Kennedy has won five of his past six fights, with the lone loss coming to current Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza.

A UFC, PRIDE and EliteXC veteran, Lawler fights for the sixth time under the Strikeforce banner. The potent striker owns first-round knockout wins over Manhoef and Matt Lindland, though he's currently looking to rebound from a submission loss in a failed attempt to unseat Souza.

Injury Forces Cyborg Out of Fight With Daley

Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos (18-14 MMA, 1-2 SF) very recently injured his shoulder and has been forced to withdraw from a fight with Paul Daley (27-10-2 MMA, 2-1 SF) at "Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson."

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed the news today with a source close to the fighter, who said the injury occurred when Santos shot for a takedown in training and overextended his shoulder when a teammate sprawled. The injury was first reported by MMAPrime.tv.

"Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson" takes place July 30 at Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill., and its main card airs live on Showtime.

Santos hoped to rebound from a loss to soon-to-depart welterweight champion Nick Diaz this past January. The source said he's been ordered to rehab the injury for a month, but a specific timetable for his return is unknown.

Daley, meanwhile, is fighting his way back to the top after his own stumble against Diaz this past April. In a "Fight of the Year" candidate, the two went toe-to-toe before Diaz stopped him with strikes late in the first round.

Sources close to the event said today that the search for a replacement opponent is underway.

Of course, a leading candidate to replace Santos would appear to be the undefeated Tyron Woodley (8-0 MMA, 6-0 SF), who recently told MMAjunkie.com that Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker had promised him a spot on the summer card when the phone stopped ringing in the wake of the promotion's sale to UFC parent company Zuffa LLC.

Daley vs. Woodley, Saffiedine vs. Smith Official For Strikeforce Chicago

A pair of previously reported welterweight contests are now official for "Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson."

Showtime officials recently announced that Paul Daley faces Tyron Woodley and Tarec Saffiedine meets Scott Smith on the evening's Showtime-broadcast main card.

Featuring a heavyweight headliner between Fedor Emelianenko and Dan Henderson, "Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson" takes place July 30 at Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill.

Daley (27-10-2 MMA, 2-1 SF) initially was slated to fight Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos on the card, but the Brazilian recently bowed out due to a shoulder injury.

Daley fights for the first time since an April title loss to Diaz. Prior to the TKO defeat, the knockout artist had won eight of nine fights, and the lone loss came to perennial contender Josh Koscheck at UFC 113. UFC officials ultimately released the British fighter after the fight because of a post-bout suckerpunch.

Daley, long ranked among the world's top 170-pounders, now meets the fast-rising Woodley (8-0 MMA, 6-0 SF), who was earmarked for a shot at Diaz before he opted to vacate the title and challenge UFC champ Georges St-Pierre in October. Woodley, a former standout wrestler at the University of Missouri, joined Strikeforce after just two wins and since has pushed his record to 8-0. His recent victories have come over notables such as Rudy Bears, Nathan Coy, Andre Galvao and Saffiedine.

Saffiedine (10-3 MMA, 3-0 SF) had climbed into welterweight title contention with a three-fight win streak that included Strikeforce victories over James Terry and Nate Moore and a Shark Fights win over UFC vet Brock Larson. However, in a recent Strikeforce Challengers 13 headliner, the Belgian fighter suffered a decision loss to fellow contender Woodley.

Smith (17-8 MMA, 3-3 SF), a former WEC champion and UFC vet, looks to snap out of a 1-3 skid, which included a knockout loss to Paul Daley in his welterweight debut back in December. Prior to that, he suffered a submission loss to Nick Diaz. Smith, a fan favorite, then rebounded for a miracle come-from-behind knockout of Cung Le but suffered a lopsided TKO loss in an immediate rematch.

JZ vs. Fancy Pants added. I guess now Woodley-Semtex is a title eliminator and they're bringing in a "mystery WW" that will also fight soon, with the winners facing each other by the end of the year. Siyar Bahadurzada's been hinting that it's him, which would be sweet.

lol ya I noticed Fedor was wearing a Clinch Gear shirt a couple weeks ago and thought it was funny.

Lines opened this morning, was surprised to see Tarec, Woodley and Kennedy are such heavy favorites. Seems like just yesterday I won $50 when Tarec was +300 against Larson at Shark Fights.

Tarec "Sponge" Saffiedine -260
Scott "Hands of Steel" Smith +200

Tim Kennedy -280
"Ruthless" Robbie Lawler +220

Tyron "T-Wood" Woodley -280
Paul "Semtex" Daley +220

Marloes "Rumina" Coenen -125
Miesha "Takedown" Tate -105

Fedor "The Last Emperor" Emelianenko -250
Dan "Hendo" Henderson +190

parlaying Tarec+Kennedy+Tate for about 2:1 odds
