^ thats what i learned from new orleans rap scene. from an outsiders view its easy to hate because its full of annoying ass fast paced dance music to weird ass beats but when you get into it you realize how much the area of new orleans itself and the culture soaks up in the rhymes, much less like lil samples from second lines and shit...but i stepped back and thought about why would one city just really support their own rappers so much and it was because they were being diverse enough to do all types of shit, you dont get to see too many people who look or act like thugs that just wanna party and have fun...it brings together a common goal, i think?

98 i hated hot boys and anything cash money related
2000 i probably played so much b.g. all my roomates wanted to kill me

i think one thing is no sound is set in stone...it can become a better or worse song as time passes is you pay attention to it...

two.... fuck if people were tryna be successful in this rap shit, youre a fuckin dummy anyway ...you shoulda been gettin money elsewise and when you get successful in rap its because you know you grinded hard to make it happen...everything that happens is a effect of a action...if you look over ya shoulder, youre still going forward, that aint backwards.....

but you wont get that till later

the key to success in rap is to be overly emotional right now, or unemotional at all

im really thinking about taking up a hobby in jazz music.

my bad im rantin i was in the lil wayne thread and it had me thinkin about success for a second

Maybe the "Gotta" Statement was too general. If west coast artists only focus life experiences like gang banging, it would benefit them to be more diverse musically. Some of my favorite artists talk turf, but I would like to see them talk about a different subject matter. That way the muzik is more diverse, it reaches a more diverse audience (anyone can bump a dope song, even the rival sets)and again, for their style, for them to showcase more talent in different subjects. I dont mind if people are still on the same page... If I kan feel the song, whether that is lyrics or the beats, I'll still fuk wid it. Some people can still sound the same and still talk the same topics and it can still be dope.

-------------------------------------------

Mack II the Future felt diverse to me. Its why I liked it and its why I tell people to listen to the whole cd if they didnt like "Red Bandana" or "El Cajon Blvd".

well i dont think you gotta be anything but something

if that makes sense

some people are afraid to do it and be them.

if more people were able to just shine through as themselves wed all enjoy this music shit more

fuck being successful
some of the people we look up to might not make any money

making a mark in life before i die is what im tryna do, money gon go and come

besides you cant tell everyone the magic formula to being successful its something you have inside i would think that makes you a standout and it might be utilizing that talent..like im good at playing pac man, i utilize that so im top 3 pac man on siccness come fuck with it! lol
This is exactly how i feel as well. I been askin questions lately trying to get to the point you made, but I did not want to come out with it..i wanted to get these artists to open up why they do what they do and what they feel its gonna accomplish. Hoping the fans can put some sense in their heads.

Yeah gotta was too general...I see where ya coming from. I think when most refer to diversity its not so much the subject matter but the sound. For example..if i want to buy a mitchy slick album..i want mitchy, not mitchy tryin to sound like someone else cause there style is hot right now...Thats why we got alot of T-Pain imposters these days. If you like it..thats fine, but I want what you bring to the table.

U HAVE TO BE DIVERSE, U CANT ALWAYS CANT BE THE GANGBANGER THAT MAKES GANGBANG MUSIC, OR YOU'LL BE STUCK IN 1 CATEGORY, U SEE HOW THE GAME AND MANY OTHER "FAMOUS GANGBANGERS" MAKE LOVE TYPE SONGS, OR THEY SING THEY OWN HOOK, IT AINT ALWAYS HARDCORE, OR YOU HAVE TO WRITE A IN-DEPTH SONG ABOUT UR LIFE WIT DETAIL
The difference with them in my opinion is they are in a position to be able to be marketed to that larger audience. Game came on the tail end of music business how we knew it. He linked with one of raps greatest labels and producers. It takes hundreds of thousands of dollars to push a single, and they invested alot in Game.
I think the profit margins are narrowing for record companies...sure there are bread and butter artist who they invest in and yields good results, but as those numbers dwindle so does the companies budget for developing new acts...instead of having 6 new acts this year its down to 1-2...so who knows how business will be conducted in the future.
So artists coming up..if you are a diverse artist and that is you...thats really good. But artists doing such and such to appeal to a larger market is only gonna be as sucessful as your ability to market to a larger market...and lets keep it real most San Diego artists cant even handle marketing to Fam Mart let alone anything greater. You go to buy a c.d. and they are out, and the artists dont keep up with it etc.
So if i was an artist i would throw the idea of getting a deal out the window ( if shit crack they will get at ya.) create your own lane. Develop and brand you and your music....build a fan base from the brick up, and quit sayin ringtones is the future that shit will be gone shortly especially since they have software that you can create your own really easily...so that will dry up eventually...by creating your own lane you, you aint worrying what anyone else is doin..building a loyal fan base, and give em what they want.
