Song bitrates...

Does anyone here notice a major difference between 320 and 256, or maybe 320 and 192?

Im wondering because I have a grip of 320k albums / songs and I could easily convert them and make room for alot more shit.

The difference between 320 and 192 isnt much to the untrained ear. Even 320 isnt necassarily "cd quality"...but most people really cant tell.

^^yep, and most computer speakers don't have good enough sound quality to let you hear the difference.

I can tell the difference between a 128 thats ripped from a cd and a 128 thats just shit quality. But otherwise I never notice much. I have August Burns Red- Messengers and it's 320 and it's the loudest shit I have on my entire computer, so I guess that's the biggest difference I have.

on your computer speakers you cant really tell...but anything under 192 in your car (assuming you dont have crappy panasonic speakers in your car) sounds kinda crappy.

i havent tried the 256 but there is a significant difference if you have a good sound system or headphones
i can tell with my 30 dollar sony

is vbr better than a 320 from a cd?
how can i convert wma or a cd to vbr mp3?
also, there is an option for "wma lossless" that i havent tried, anyone know how that is?

i never heard of wma lossless, but lossless is usually not or only slightly compressed and the format is wav or flac or aiff. and is about 1mb a minute files (ex. 70 minute cd=700mb)
and yes i dont know if youve realized, but some songs dont sound that great at 192kbps and other songs sound perfect in 192, but VBR makes all the songs sound CD quality unless its a crappy rip (smh at RAGE and their low bitrates)......and you can make a VBR with EAC and LAME.

I have a 1 terrabyte of hard drive space free, and not even I mess with flacs, haha. They are simply too big.. 30 megabytes for a 4-5 minute song... times 89,000 songs or so.. there goes my entire 1 TB of space

Yeah they do sound the best, but still, the human ear cant tell the diff between 192 kpbs and 320 kpbs unless the music is being played on a huuuuge sound system. theres a lot of audiophile elitists that will disagree with that but the research clearly backs that up.

I got FLAC's for my favorite groups though.

i usually rip a cd on windows media player at 320 kbps mp3 for compatibilities sake
i definitely dont have the space to fuck with the lossless
i guess ill stick with mp3 but ill try variable out

I dropped everything above around 192 to 192 VBR for an ipod

I wish there were an easy way to level song volumes...but there isnt

"Automatically adjusts song playback volume to the same level"

sound check works better than nothing, but it still be having random ass volumes sometimes.....I refuse to do anything below 192 kbps unless I'm doing ringtones

that sound check option doesnt do shit. or at least not on an ipod, i dont really notice on the computer.
