I live in Daygo and we ain't got shit for artists here. It's all overhyped bullshit. We got Jayo Felony & Nick Cannon and that's it. Mitchy Slick is average, Lil Rob is average (Summer Nights is a nice cut, but dude can't carry an album), Shadow is wack, DUI is wack. The only artist San Diego has is Nick Cannon that can move units. And Nick Cannon is the king of San Diego (he's got that track with 40 water and Bosko gettin airplay as we speak). The reason Daygo don't sell shit is because they don't have any major deals and the talent pool isn't there. Daygo is a sleepy beach town that nobody will ever take "gangstas" serious. Everyone I talk to about Daygo outside Cali says, "there's gangstas in San Diego?" People outside of Cali think of it as a beach resort tourism spot and can't take rappers serious who talk all this hard shit but live in San Diego, where the average rent is $900 for a room. The reason Nick Cannon is successful is because he doesn't talk all this hard fake shit this and that and makes party music (which is what San Diego is really about) and he's marketable.
When you get down to it, the whole world recognizes Los Angeles County is the King of California. It's the engine behind the machine. Snoop, Daz, Kurupt, Nate, Tupac, Crooked I, Xzibit, etc. are all reppin Los Angeles County. And while The Bay has Short, E-40, and Yukmouth, the major push in Cali is always going to be Los Angeles. Death Row and Aftermath, who have pushed the most units in the history of West Coast, both represent Los Angeles and with the media being in L.A. it's always going to be the prime spot to be for West Coast artists.
