good point but that White guy you are speaking of was a member of Maravilla, which is a Chicano gang. In the 50's, East LA wasn't nearly as dominated by Mexicanos as it is now, and it had many white people within its borders. Despite all that, this Caucasian being from MV was a rarity because the gangs were theoretically meant for Chicanos only and racism AGAINST Chicanos by Whites was significantly more prevalent than it is today. In prison, where the southern thing started, he played a major role in the "M" for decades. But in order to get there, he had to first be from a Chicano neighborhood and he was put on by them and did everything in that original Chicano fashion (what some Nortenos on this board refer to as "scrap" style). His being white just made it easier for him to get the Southerners in good with the Whites. SO... these gangs (13 & 14) have a Chicano rep because they were originally STARTED by Chicanos and Mexican nationals. That doesnt mean that people like gRATton and Morgan never played a role.
