The way I look at it, Rock'n'Roll is a congregation of more than one music genre, and from more than one culture. Whos to say that without country music that the Rock'n'Roll that we know of today, created by blacks, would not be labeled Rythm & Blues? The fact of the matter is Rock'n'Roll was created by both black and white people, with combinations of Country, R & B, Gospel, and who knows what else or when the elctric gutair came into play that signified the genre. Trying to credit a race with this creation is stupid, credit Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Little Richard, all of them. Fuck trying to label this shit.

"It's also an odd idea when you think about it: that Elvis could steal an entire music. That anybody could. A genre or form (as opposed to a personal style) exists so that other people can perform it, so that listeners can understand it. A form tells you that there will be four movements in contrasting keys and tempos; that a musician will improvise a new melody on the existing harmonies; that the rhythm won't change every 20 seconds (or that it will if it's progressive rock).

By its nature, a form doesn't belong to anybody, not even its creators. It's a communal effort, where numerous people come together and contribute something of their own, even if it's merely appreciation. [...] Sure, sometimes barriers are set up--bop's notorious technical difficulties, punk's deliberate ugliness--but there's no real way to keep anybody from coming in to add a bit of basil or to borrow a cup of flour.
"

Rythm & Blues + Country Western = Rock'n'Roll.

Just live with it and stop boiling over shit that does not matter. Cultural supremacy is a poison.

^^^ you should hit the link i posted.

heres an excerpt:

By the 1940s, cover versions of African American songs were commonplace, and frequently topped the charts, while the original musicians found little success. Popular African American music at the time was a developing genre called rock 'n' roll, whose exponents included Little Richard and Jackie Brenston. The following decade saw the first major crossover acts, with Bill Haley and Elvis Presley performing rockabilly, a rock and country fusion, while black artists like Big Bopper, Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley received unprecedented mainstream success. Presley went on to become perhaps the first watershed figure in American music; his career, while never extremely innovative, marked the beginning of the acceptance of musical tastes crossing racial boundaries among all audiences. He was also the first in a long line of white performers to achieve what some perceive as undue fame for his influence, since many of his fans showed no desire to learn about the pioneers he learned from. The 50s also saw doo wop become popular.

Whats wrong with learning about the pioneers? When you don't know your history you're doomed.....

damn, this post got wild......my point was, edj was consumed in the idea that white people should not listen to rap because it is a black thing and how can we "feel" rap if we have never gone through the "struggle" of a gangster, and if white people listen to rap they are wiggers..........my point is that is the dumbest shit ever, hence my point of mos def doing rock n roll.......no matter where it came from, rock and roll is a predominatly white form of music these days, so if i had edj thaughts, he would be an uncle tom........which is fuckin retarted, thats all i was saying....it is kinda similar to basketball cuz b-ball was created by dr. james naismith , who is white, he might not have created a hoop and a ball, or putting a ball through a hoop, but he organized it, made the rules, and hence the game was born...so should blacks be persecuted cuz they play a sport that was made by a white person? no. should white people be persecuted cuz they listen to music black people make? no........thats my point

Fuckin damn white Amerikan fucks stole Italian Pasta, Insalata, antipasto and pizza recipes and made a killing off of my culture...especially with PIZZA, which they don't even make the Italian way here...LOL!!! I'm boycotting Pizza Hut damnit...and the Olive Garden...While I'm doing that, they should have a BIG Italian Boycott in China, since the Chinese created the noodle that is used for Spaghetti.

L-Mac...ok, you have a point if Elvis stole songs that weren't written by him and made money off it, that ain't coo. I'm just sick of folks sayin "Rap ain't for whites"...and if you're white and you rap people call you Elvis, what the fuck kinda shit is that? That's what I'm having trouble with.

@ HERESY...that's real spit right there. That's one thing that's been retarded to me since the jump, rappers using the names of Italian Bosses...then the same cats turn around and say white folks don't belong near rap music. No sense, at all.

Right on...anyone saying rap isn't for a certain person is full of shit, I was just trying to speak to the whole Elvis phenomenon.

yea, it's all good. It's funny cause most of the non white cats I've met in my life tell me to keep at it, and they never say shit else. They just want me to succeed at what I do. So for me to come across someone from another race and they say, "Stop rappin whiteboy, it ain't for you" it just blows my mind.

About Elvis, I never understood that whole thing, I didn't know he was jackin songs from cats...
