Skatterman and Snugbrim's music was fucking terrible so the fans didn't buy shit simple as that. Blaming the record label not supporting you enough by flushing away more money on an act thats not clicking with the fans is on some crybaby shit. S&S got waaaay more exposure compared to what they were doing on their own when they got signed, people like myself not from KC was introduced to them and guess what.... nobody liked it. If you really felt under-marketed then go promote yourself.
No please allow me to do that...

I'm a fan of skat n snug, but skatterman is an awful solo artist. sound like a knock off rich. He ruined that beat and chorus..

and its funny skatter talking about strange isn't growing when he's an opening act.. Dudes opening at smaller arenas than tech sells out . They did get screwed out of a video for word on the streets, I'll give em that

Skatterman and Snugbrim aren't good...not sure which one it is but i heard that weak ass "strange music black sheep" line way too many times.

but yeah, weren't SM artists selling maybe HALF of what they sell now? even though sales are down on average?

i dont recall Krizz ever hitting 9k first week. thought he was always around 4k.

i literally rather listen to Waka Flocka than Skatterman...and i actually do, because he's way more entertaining.

I bumped both Urban legends and word on the streets. I think there were some good songs. But I remember Travis giving me like 1000 samplers for urban legends. I still have a few of the sealed ones left. They got a lot of push for what the label could do at the time.

You should let me take one of those off your hands.

I am not knocking Skattermans hustle because he does HUSTLE and from everything I know a stand up cat, but this interview caught me by surprise. The truth still is that, that chart with the exception of a Michael Jackson remix is a relative who's who of nobodys.

Maybe it's because Skatterman is shit and he ruined 9/10 Strange songs he appeared on?

It's business. Skatterman realizes that, for example, record stores will order a certain number of copies of an album based on how well the previous album sold and that businesses base advertising/promotion dollars for current projects, in part, on the success of past projects. Skatterman can't expect Strange to pump an endless amount of money into project and HOPE that it sells well. If they did that for every release, Strange would go belly up in a matter of months.

Tech, of course, has the privilege of being the first artist on the label. Tech grew his fanbase from the ground up for 5 years bere anything else was released on Strange, so had the opportunity of SOLELY focusing on his own work and setting the base for future releases. The success of Absolute Power (in terms of sales and mindshare, though they lost money) influenced how Everready was marketed, Everready influenced how Killer was marketed and so on. The huge debut of 6's and 7's and strong showing of Strangeland will influence how much the next release is pushed. Etc., etc., til the end of capitalism.

When it comes to the 'Tech is everything' conversation, just weigh this in -

Prozak currently has the best-selling album on the tour. Every single release this year - Mayday, Kaliko, Prozak - is over 10K sold according to a recent interview. Stevie debuted with over 6K sold and he still plans on touring this year. It all goes into what the artist is willing to do and how good the music is.

This could be the best year for SM without a significant Tech release (Klusterfuk was an EP, his next album is not concrete for this year)

This is one of the first year's where the label has strong artists that aren't Tech N9ne, though. There hasn't been a time in the history of the label that has seen it with more marketable, profitable, and with top notch production, videos, tours, and sponsorships. I don't even see a likely comparison to the last few years and this year.
