yeah I know, I was lookin forward to it to.

Funny though, he was so eager to get Floyd Mayweather in the octagon and said he would do whatever it takes to make it happen, but when it came to an MMA fighter in a mega boxing match, he's like nah.

Would have given his sport a lot of exposure though, that cannot be denied. And like I said before, even if Silva lost, it wouldn't hurt the UFC cause no one in their right mind would think Jones could beat Silva in an MMA match.

I dunno, maybe they could set up a double match: one boxing, one mma. probably would never happen. but still, compromise.
mix it all up like. sorta like pride but u cant attack when guy is on the ground or some shit. but u can kick if u wear no shoes and if u do then u cant kinda like old ufc befpore the gloves

The people that think that about mma aren't going to change their minds unless Silva would come out in a boxing ring and straight up stratch Jones, which is not likely. It's a good possibility that Jones would completely outclass him in the ring and make him look silly. People that look down on mma would only use that to fuel the fire.

I just don't see a way for Silva to win.
Great post.

if Silva was in Elite XC that fight would happen
Gary Shaw is just like any other promoter. Don't let the slick talk fool you. Shaw has been quoted several times about Kimbo boxing Klitschko and I guarantee he never tries to pursue the fight because he knows exactly what would happen. Shaw knows boxing and knows how to promote and if he had an investment in Anderson Silva there's no way in hell he'd step into the ring with Roy Jones.

Undaunted, Silva Still Wants Jones Jr.

While it looks as if Anderson Silva won't be able to box Roy Jones Jr. anytime soon, the UFC middleweight champion remains optimistic.

"I'm still confident this fight will happen," Silva told Sherdog.com. "This can be this year or in 2009. I respect Dana White, the UFC owners and their point of view, but my vision is that I want this boxing match."

A bout between Silva and Jones Jr. has sparked interest among mixed martial arts and boxing fans. Jones Jr. told Sherdog.com on Wednesday that despite being willing to accept Silva's challenge, the bout was nixed by the UFC.

"I have a contract with UFC; I respect them, I respect Dana White and I don't have anything to complain about the promotion -- they always treated me nicely," said Silva, who turns 33 Monday. "But this is my huge personal wish, a pro boxing fight against Roy Jones, who I consider the top boxer. I'm his fan as well. I'd like this fight to happen and I'll do everything possible to make it happen. Roy Jones stated his will to fight as well. He has an exceptional character, and we want this fight. This would be good for both sports -- MMA and boxing. This would be historical! This has to happen! I can't believe that the people responsible to make it happen don't see that. They can't let the fans be without this match, which can mark the story of the fight sport."

Boxing one of combat sport's biggest names isn't the only thing on which Silva has set his sights. Currently, he is attempting to establish residency in the United States.

"We're working on that," said Silva, who remains unsure where he'll settle. "This is not easy, but it's my wish. I'm trying to live with my family in the U.S. I don't have many details now. Soon I'll let you know."
