question 1. - 99% of the northern music scene i aint feelin. mostly some abc rhymes that sound like they were from 1992. as far as genuine talent i can only think of three rappers (Woodie, Shadow, and Drew) alot of northerners like to make fun of the corny southern rap style like "orale ese, i pack a cuete" type of shiet, but you guys seriously need to step your bars up if you want to be taken serious outside of the norteno fan base

question 2. - what makes an artist tight is charisma, DECENT production (no shit that sounds like it was made on a fucking casio keyboard), actual rhyming skills, ability to flow, and decent lyrics.

question 3. - in my honest opinion, of course that shit would backlash on them. Chicanos RARELY support our own people who are successful, instead we choose to talk down on them until they fail. and to add some gang shit in their would make it even harder for sumone to be successful in the first place. cops are always gonna fuck with you, your own "homeboys" are gonna turn their back on you, and i can go on and on, but we as a people need to unite and support our folks

damn yall be draggin up some old ass posts...haha..

when i first made this thread...i was in thinking of changing up styles to conform to what i thought people would want to hear. but through the years and all the albums i put out and all the individuals i've met throught this industry...i know this. i am who i am. i don't do clubs and i don't get dumb. my life is surrounded by gang violence and shiesty individuals. i will not change up nothin to please anybody that wouldn't feel me otherwise. i rarely kick it with black folks and i have like two black fools i could call homies but i see em here n there over the years. all i hear is fools talkin about how ene rappers need to get their skills up to get a bigger audience. why don't yall be honest and say that you think we should all start sounding more black and follow all the black fads so that we could get more sales. but reality is that ain't no black fools gonna buy the homies music regardless of how we sound. that's just how it is. trust me, as an artists i know what's goin on and the non bangin chicano rappers that sound and act black are not selling to a black audience, they are selling to chicanos that have a black influence in em. when norteno rappers get black features on their projects they ain't sellin to black folks, they sellin to the nortenos that act black. all i see is homies gettlin black artists on their projects and kickin it with them and sounding like them in order to get that audience. for the most part they don't respect us musically..they just like the money the homies is spendin to get them on our projects. you see all these fools on the homies projects but when do you see us on their projects?? most black rappers already got that big fan base and when you cound how many homies be buying their music i be the numbers are fuckin huge. more homies buy black rappers music then they do their fellow northerners in the game. why??? everybody got an answer for that question. i know homies act different everywhere you go but we are all tied together by one string feel me. man i can go on and on and i know i'll have a lot of you disagreeing with me on this whole thing but i'm a keep doin what i'm doin and keeping it real to myself and my homiez. i realized after all these years, that's what it's all about. stayin real.

WOW, you took the words right out of my mouth. Great minds think alike, hahaha.

I agree with everything you said here Big Oso, especially about homeboys supporting black rap, instead of supporting homeboys first. They never support us...so why are we supporting them? This is my opinion, and I live by it. I PURCHASE all my homeboy rap, and lets just say I dont buy the other stuff out there.

SUPPORT THE HOMEBOYS FIRST!

I feel what you're saying Oso.

Regardless of where you're at, you have to do YOU as an artist. If growin' up around the Homeboys is how you were raised, then your music and lifestyle will reflect that. The same goes for artists like myself who grew up ALL OVER, and have various influences. It's all different, but it's all NORTHERN CALI, tu sabes?

The thing that makes it hard for people to relate to us, is the fact that they aren't up on Nor Cal culture as much as the rest of Cali. Once people get a taste of our (Northern Cali Artists) music, they gravitate to it. Our sound is universal. We have artists that give you that Mobb/Gangsta shit, some that lean toward the Hyphy side of things, traditional Hip Hoppers, and artists that stick to the Chicano rap formula.

This is how we are going to grow as artists and as businessmen.....

we need to start cross promoting amongst ourselves. we all have our fan bases, and if we network, put egos aside, and work together, we'll make a louder noise then if we try to do it alone. We have to re-establish ourselves in this game, and stop spending money on getting features from cats that you HOPE will get you some sales. Let's just start putting out QUALITY material, and then they will be coming to US for features.

We all know that the chances of our shit gettin played on the radio is slim to none. Don't even go that route. Make music for the streets, and for the net, and you will see bigger results. It doesn't make any sense for us to keep sending packages to these stations, knowing that they won't play the song if it doesn't contain a feature from an established artist. there are PLENTY of avenues to get your music heard, DON'T LIMIT YOUSELF OR YOUR WAY OF THINKING. Promote in ONLY the markets where sales of your music will be benefitted. In other words, don't spend money trying to get cats back east to cop your stuff. Hit spots like Kansas, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Idaho, Texas, Oklahoma, Washington, Oregon, Minnesota, Illinois, and Indiana. I mean literally GO THERE. They are really open to the Northern Cali sound because they are up on Bay shit. I did a verse for a DJ lOON Mixtape out in KC, and now I have poeple from the Midwest hittin' me up for verses.....that's a wonderful thing.

We can make this thing go y'all, but we gotta stop bullshittin' and MAKE IT HAPPEN.

my 2 cents...there's alot of homeboyz that puttin' out good music but at the same time they artistic creativity is held back cuz they just talk about killin' scraps..they gotta be opened minded and right songs about life, politics etc.. you gotta be able to hit diffrent aspects of the game..and like coner was sayin' if a foo' dressin' like a gangsta, that don't make'm' a gangsta..me personally i don't bang no more, but i did at 1 point in my life, now i gotta hustle to support my fams..anyways we gotta support each other if not ain't nobody else gonna give us the time of day..

i disagree... the folks i listed are FAR from acting/sounding black... at the end of the day it comes down to genuine talent to crossover to an audience outside of the norcal spectrum.... some either got it or dont

to me, i'll support any talented artist who don't sell out. i don't bang so i dont' care if he's from north or south, east or west, if i like it, i'll buy it. in an artist, the worst thing to me is when they give in to fads or sound like anyone else, and i know there's plenty like me. oso, i know they sell sureno and norteno rap at the cd store around here, and i know alot of gente support norteno rap.

to me, the black music cant get any worse than it already is! but then again there are still more and more of them comin' up all "gangsta" and shit and all they talk about are clubs and that shit....nothing about street life because they either A) arent gangsta's or B) they are just sell outs to begin with cuz like you said OSO, its about the money for them, and for you all keepin it real and doin your indie labels you will succeed farther than them nigs with deals from the major labels because you can do what you want when you want and its all your say and do not compared to them in the major labels...if this makes any sense at all, i just cant stand radio music...

that Ridin Dirty song, how fuckin bad can music get after that! i hope not much, cuz that song is horrible, and then that Lil Jaque or whatever, i mean what the fuck that shit is horrible and prolly worse

then i am sure you will hear something from Husalah's solo nationwide on the radio, and IMO that album was GOD AWFUL...like he wrote the lyrics in 1st grade and then busted them out

then you got Woodie who goes circles around them IMO and does his beats, label, writin of lyrics and that low profile, but has to blow up soon, but i mean its the music style and the genre he is associated with, that you wont prolly wont hear him go up the ranks as fast as he should which is a damn shame...or its the fact he's white, or the fact he's white and the rest of ECCR are chicano (or whatever nomenclature i should use) but they got that talent you will wont hear again on the radio/tv

the problem these days is that it's all about money. in success and gettin on tv, money spent often goes above rapping skill. money spent on beats, money on rims and teeth, money spent paying radios to keep playing a song on the top 20 even after people are tired of it (yes, they've actually done that). plus people are too trendy, cause rap's largest group of buyers seem to be people who actually know notin about "tha streetz", so they'll fall for any sell out bullsh!t.

These Are My Prsinal Opinions And If You Dont Like It Fuck You Suck My Dick N Go To Hell. ::

1.I Think If Woodie N Big Oso Stopped Bangen So Hard On Wax They Could, N Never From Low Down. :: I Dont Think They Would Go MainStream But Sorta Like Where Yukmouth N tech N9ne N Other Rappers Who Aint Quite Mainstream But Aint Really Underground No More Their KNown World Wide But Not Sold Out.

2.N Like Everyone Else Said If You Can Make Shyt That Can Touch People Thats Something Honestly "Life Of Sin" Helped Me Threw My Life More Then Onces WHen Ever Shyt Had Me Hella Down It Touched Me. :: N "187 On Central Ave" N "North Side Gang Bang" Gets My Blood Boiling N Ready Just To go Smash On Some One. :: But Whats Missing(N my opinion) From All Most Northern Rappers Is Lyrical Talent N Im Not Sayen They Cant Rap Im Talking Like Its Rare To Hear Norteno Rappers Use Punchlines, Metaphores, Wordplays, Ect ect N Me I Love Punchlines N Word Plays If I Hear Some Dope Ass Lines That Makes Me Respect The Artists. :: N Another Thing Is Most Norteno Rappers Say The Exact Same Thing With Different Words. ::

3.If A Norteno Rapper Got On MTV OR BET I Would Bust A Nut No Matter Wut The Fuck They Did To Get There Because That Means A Doar Has Been Opened 4 All Of Us Northern Artists. :: But If He Turned Soft N started SIngen ALl Them Pussy Ass Love Songs Then Fuck'em. :: But If He Has A Few Pussy Songs 4 His Singles N the Rest Of His CD Is Hard N He Still Reps Atleast A Lil I'll Give Him Love Still. ::

N Big Oso You Have Skills You Can Put Emotion N Your music N Alot Of People Cant Do That, Honestly I Have A Hard Time Putting Emotion N My Music N I Wish I Could It Good As You Could But You Work WIth What You Got Home Boy. :: N Another Thing i Think You SHould Do Is Work With Artists Different Then You People WHo' Style Is Different Then Yours Like Umm I Unno You, Ammunition, N SPm or Sum shyt Like That Because You Have That Raw Hard Core Ima Fuck You N Your Whole Crew Up Sound N If YOu Have That Then Add a Couple Differnt Rappers With Different Styles But Still Having ALl The Artists On The Same Page As You WOuld Be A Hitter. :: I Dun Even Kno If eNe one gone really Understand Wut Im Sayen But Thatz Juz My Opinion N like I said N the begining Of this Post its My opinion N if you odont like it fuck you suck my dick N go To Hell. ::
