Why Is Linebacker Lofa Tatupu Still Unsigned?

How much longer will Lofa Tatupu remain unsigned?

Well, it's hard to tell. The Chicago Bears, who were reported to be interested in Tatupu, believe he is out of their price range.

Another potential suitor, the Washington Redskins, are out of the picture after re-signing Rocky McIntosh.

At 28 years old Tatupu is one of the most talented defensive players on the market. However, he has a few things working against him.

There aren't many teams in the market for a linebacker right now—just ask Matt Roth, another linebacker having trouble finding a job.

For Tatupu, that spells trouble, because no one is going to be willing to spend on him if there's no bidding war. As of now, Tatupu's best chance at landing the kind of contract he desires would probably be with the Oakland Raiders. However, like every other team, the Raiders are in no position to rush the signing of Tatupu or give him a ton of cash.

Another issue with Tatupu is the concern that he has peaked. Tatupu started his NFL career with three straight Pro Bowl appearances, but hasn't gone since 2007. In 2009, Tatupu missed 11 games after tearing a pectoral muscle and had been off to a slow start regardless. In 2010, Tatupu had the worst season of his career.

When you look at those facts, it certainly seems like Tatupu has peaked. For the sake of his career, Tatupu will probably have to end up taking a one-year deal and attempt to prove he can still compete a Pro Bowl-caliber level.

Luckily this is just pre-season
Yeah don't sweat it, it's pre-season. I thought Whitehurst was making some damn good throws. I like his pump fakes too. Tavaris wasn't getting much help from the O-Line, but yeah once or twice, he needed to throw that ball away. Think the kid still has a lot of potential though.

Nice comeback for the win.
For sure, but you gotta remember, it was 2 3rd string teams playing in the 2nd half when the Hawks really started doing something. Half of those dudes won't even make the team. But of course you'd rather win either way. Good game though for a meaningless pre-season game. Fun to watch.

Yeah that's true, I'm just glad to have football back and a win is always nice even if it doesn't mean anything lol.

Russell Okung leaves on cart, X-rays negative

Posted by Ryan Wilson

Not much went right for the Seahawks' first-teamers in their Week 1 preseason game against the Chargers. From Tarvaris Jackson's debut as the Seattle starter (he left after going 3 for 5 for 13 yards), to the defense watching San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers go 5 for 6 for 87 yards and a touchdown on his first drive, to the familiar-but-no-less-troubling sight of left tackle Russell Okung going down with an ankle injury.

The Seahawks' 2010 first-round pick and the man tasked with filling the huge void (both literally and figuratively -- both mostly literally) left by Walter Jones, suffered the injury in the first quarter. He was engaged in a block at the time but the ankle was untouched. Although Okung left the field on a cart, there is some good news:

The NFL Network's Jason La Canfora tweets that: "X-Rays negative on SEA LT Russell Okung, who left game with what appeared to be an ankle injury. Hope his injury luck turns this season."

As Rotoworld notes, "The ankle isn't broken but … the Seahawks can't afford to suffer through another injury-plagued season from Okung, a difference maker for their offense. They've got enough problems at quarterback already."

For real.

Okung missed six games last season as he battled high ankle sprains.
