An unidentified source from within the organization has told me that the Seahawks are planning on unveiling their neon green jerseys at some point this season.

The source, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, believes that the Hawks are most likely to feature the green jerseys at home versus the Chicago Bears on Sunday September 27th.

Duckett was dumped.

and Reed does look promising. That last sack he had was bad ass.

The Hawks just need to get a vet center now. since Spencer is likely out for a month or so.

With Chris Spencer out, the O-line should look something like this: Walter Jones @ LT, Mansfield Wrotto @ LG, Max Unger @ C, Rob Sims @ RG, and Sean Locklear @ RT

(It could be Steve Vallos @ C with Max Unger at LG, though.)

But when Chris Spencer comes back, he'll probably get his Center spot back, and Max Unger to LG, and Steve and Mansfield on the sidelines.

That's what I'd like to see anyway.

is there more to Jones' injury or is edge only an upgrade to duckett?
I don't think Jones' injury has anything to do with the addition of James. I just think that Duckett wasn't being as productive as the Hawks would have liked. Duckett was pretty much just a short yard specialist, and James is probably much more then that, like a real good pass blocker.

I think that Hasselbeck is going to have a good season, too. He's got some pretty good weapons. I can't believe no one is scared of a healthy Hasselbeck and TJ Housh. That seems to be a dangerous duo right there alone. Plus with a healthy Burleson and Branch, and with John Carlson. That's a nice line up of receivers right there. But we'll see.

Seahawks tackle Jones likely out for season

The Seattle Seahawks are apparently trying to put on as happy a face as possible.

Left tackle Walter Jones(notes) had off-season microfracture knee surgery and has had some complications. The team is saying the nine-time Pro Bowler is likely out for 4-6 weeks but there is word that the 35-year-old is likely done for the season, according to NFL.com.

Plus, the guy has a bad back. You would too if you were lugging around 325 pounds all the time.

But don't worry, Seahawks fans, the signing of running back Edgerrin James(notes) is going to make everything work out just fine. At least if you ask the Seahawks.

Damn that is going to suck big time if the Hawks lose Walter Jones for the entire season. Huge loss

A recap of the Seahawks’ Wednesday practice:

PLAYER OF THE DAY

Edgerrin James. With apologies to linebacker Leroy Hill, wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh and every member of the No. 1 defensive line, the edge goes to, well, Edge.

The NFL’s leading rusher among active players practiced with the team for the first time, after signing a one-year contract Tuesday night. James was very limited, as you might imagine, but it was the first step toward becoming the complementary back to starter Julius Jones.

“I’m not here to compete with Julius,” James said. “I’m here to complement him and for us to work together. I just want to win.”\

James watched most of the full-team drills, and asked a lot of questions of Jones and running backs coach Kasey Dunn. But when he did get his chance, James displayed the one-step-and-go style that is needed to play in the new zone-blocking scheme being installed. It’s the same system he played in during his days with the Indianapolis Colts

“I love the scheme,” he said. “Hopefully I can pick it up real well.”

Coach Jim Mora said the decision on whether James will play Saturday night against the Chiefs in Kansas City probably won’t be made until Saturday.

James might be wearing a new uniform, but he’s got the same old number: 32. Cornerback Kevin Hobbs, who had been wearing 32, is now 38.

Hobbs said he relinquished the number out of respect for everything James has accomplished in his career.

“I’m just a little guy, showing some respect to a veteran,” Hobbs said.

But James said Hobbs will be rewarded for the magnanimous gesture.

PLAY OF THE DAY

The final play. Cornerback Kelly Jennings got a hand on Seneca Wallace’s pass into the end zone that was intended for wide receiver Logan Payne – as both Jennings and Payne were tumbling to the turf. But Payne somehow came up with the carom for the touchdown.

POSITION WATCH

Defensive line. As already mentioned, Dan Quinn’s crew was getting after it in the full-pads practiced that lasted almost 2½ hours. The team’s first-year line coach challenged his players after they did not practice as well as he thought they should have Tuesday.

The players obviously got the message.

During a four-play sequence in a run drill, middle linebacker Lofa Tatupu flashed through a gap provided by tackles Colin Cole and Brandon Mebane to make a big thump on running back Devin Moore; end Cory Redding was on Moore before he could get to the hole; Hill used another lane created by Cole and Mebane to get into the backfield and grab Moore from behind; and Mebane stuffed Moore before he could get into the hole.

STAT DU JOUR

James has eight 100-yard rushing performances in the past three seasons, and three came against the Seahawks – 100 yards in the regular-season finale last year, 128 in 2007 and 115 in 2006.

ROLL CALL

Middle linebacker David Hawthorne, who sprained his left knee in Saturday night’s game against the Broncos, did not practice. But coach Jim Mora said Hawthorne could be able to play this week against the Chiefs. Cornerback Travis Fisher, who pulled a hamstring in the Denver game, also was out. But he will not play this week.

Also out for this week are left tackle Walter Jones (knee), cornerback Marcus Trufant (back) and center Chris Spencer (thigh).

Walt is also on the wrong end of 35 and had surgery that, for some, puts them into retirement. I'm not surprised at his condition. I'm also not counting on him to play this year, either. I semi-healthy Walt isn't any better than a Wrotto or Spencer.

RENTON, Wash. (AP)—Greg Knapp has always been able to run the football.

In his eight seasons as an offensive coordinator, Knapp’s teams have finished in the top 10 in the league in rushing every year and led the league three times.

But Knapp is facing a challenge this season, revitalizing a struggling ground game while fitting the league’s 11th all-time leading rusher into the fold.

Edgerrin James(notes) joined the Seahawks on Tuesday after lengthy speculation that the league’s active rushing leader was headed to Seattle. James has been very limited in two practices with the team as he tries to pick up Seattle’s offense on the fly with the Seahawks nearly a month into training camp.

"He’s still getting into football shape,” Knapp said. “It’s hard to come off the street and be in football shape. He’s in very good shape, just not football shape. I feel that it’s been a good transition so far and I feel that his time in Indianapolis will help (with learning the offense).”

James ran in a zone blocking scheme during his time with the Indianapolis Colts and some of his most productive years came during his time in that scheme.

“I love the scheme,” James said. “This is one of the schemes that I’ve had success in. The past couple of years I haven’t run the things that I came from Indianapolis running. Now you’re getting into where you have the zone blocking scheme and when you do something for seven years, that’s what you’re kind of accustomed to, and then all of a sudden you’re doing something different.”

James has been shadowing incumbent starter Julius Jones(notes) in his first two days with the team. After every play he’s in the ear of Jones, third-string back Justin Forsett(notes) or fullback Justin Griffith(notes) trying to pick up the nuances of Knapp’s offense. He spent 15 to 20 minutes after practice Thursday taking handoffs from backup quarterback Jeff Rowe(notes).

“It’s just of matter of being out here and hearing the calls. I don’t want to be out there and embarrass myself,” James said. “But it doesn’t seem that complicated. I’ll have it picked up in no time.”

Knapp has vowed to turn around a Seahawks rushing attack that has foundered since their Super Bowl run in 2005. He thought he had his pieces in place with Jones, Forsett and T.J. Duckett(notes) as his running backs, but the Seahawks came to see Duckett as only a short-yardage role player and not the complement to Jones they were hoping for.

They hope that James can be effective in short-yardage situations while still adding another dimension that Duckett couldn’t provide.

“Julius is going to be our workhorse, our lead dog, and to be able to get a guy of Edgerrin’s caliber, and of his personality, and of his pedigree to come in here and do what he’s going to do, it’s really a bonus for us,” head coach Jim Mora said Wednesday.

Knapp said that they told James that Jones would be their number one guy, but that he would still factor in heavily in the running game.

“We told him that Julius would be our number one back, but that we use two backs quite a bit,” Knapp said. “Just look at our time in Oakland last year, we had three guys—Michael Bush(notes), Justin Fargas(notes) and Darren McFadden(notes)—that we gave carries to. We want to keep everyone fresh so there will be plenty of carries to go around.”

The Seahawks have struggled to get their rushing attack going in their first two preseason games, gaining only 164 yards on the ground. Jones missed the game last Saturday with a thigh bruise, leaving Duckett, Forsett and rookie free agent Devin Moore to shoulder the load.

With Walter Jones(notes) and Chris Spencer(notes) going down with injuries this preseason, the Seahawks have also been forced to shuffle their offensive line around several times, adding to the team’s struggles.

But Knapp said he isn’t worried about the team’s progress with the scheme.

“We’ve got plenty of time,” Knapp said. “In my two experiences of starting up with this run scheme, both in Atlanta and Oakland, it will be six, seven games into the regular season before we’re hitting on all cylinders. It takes time, so I’m not worried at all.”
