Losing Mebane really hurt our D line. Our interior line is the worsts its ever been IMO.

Mebane signed a 3yr 13 million contract. Guess what Jermain Kearse's contract was??

Yeah that's right, 3yr 13 million.

Yeah Mebane is injured and yeah he is 31 but fuck!

I dont like Terrell at all. He is just not that good. He gets beat alot and is never in the right position. Maybe being spoiled by ET is compounding it, but its GIGANTIC drop off. They need to start finding better depth out there in the draft. This year's draft will be DB heavy, so here is their chance.

Great post btw, good points and positions.

I guess why I use the word weird is because while I agree with all of that, we still ended up 3rd in scoring D, and the defense has looked significantly worse with ET out than I expected. Like Fucky McFuckerson said, I expected a drop off but we have looked lost our there without ET. That was weird.

I also say weird just because I am not used to seeing the team like this. We still have most of our core around, and a lot of the core is still playing at an elite level (Bennett, Avril, Bobby, KJ, Kam, ET).

IMO you have 6 of your 11 guys playing elite ball, 3 playing good ball (Sherm, Frank, McDaniels)

That really only leaves 2 guys to bring us down. Granted McDaniels isn't any every down guy and ET is now out.

Even with Terrell, Lane, Shead, and Rubin all kind of sucking - we still have got to have one of the most if not the most talented D in the league overall.
It's too important of a position, people don't realize what it means to a defense specifically built like this. I know from experience, saw it with my own eyes. Bears Superbowl year, absolutely dominating defense that year. A lot like Seattle in that they didn't dominate by blitzing a ton they ran simple defense, rushed the front four with phenomenal secondary and punishing linebacker's who could cover extremely well.

A bit before the playoffs they lose the heart of their defense, safety Mike Brown. Brown was the heart of the defense, Urlacher would be the first to say it. Always in position, always there to break up a pass, make a crazy game changing INT or fumble recovery and also there to clean up any messes in the running game. I'm seeing similar stats right now - Bears defense were allowing significant more yards with Brown out compared to when he was playing, with a big difference on third downs, just like Earl compared to no Earl. Thats all it takes, one player, especially Safety given the style of defense.

Bears had it a bit worse though since they also lost defensive lineman Tommie Harris who was a terror that year. All of a sudden their defense wasn't that dominating anymore and Manning carved them up in the super bowl as a result. Brown never gets hurt, at minimum that game is a lot closer, realistically they win that game despite Rex Grossman.

Funny enough, I'm typing this and I hear Devin fucking Hester signs with the Seahawks, one of my all time favorite players. Yeah he may be washed up, but he's better than calling a fair catch every time and who knows, at the Clink with the 12s going absolutely crazy, might just be enough to light a spark for the 34 year old should be hall of famer to run one back.

Think of it this way - the defense lost a potential future hall of famer and replaced him with a guy who's only played a few games. Terrell is actually pretty good, it's just too much too fast to make up. It's an incredibly tough position to play because not only do you need to know where to be every play at the exact moment but the decisions they make have to be made instantly in a split decision where it's a difference between a broken up pass and a TD for the other team. Any slight hesitation or being out of position is a massive fuck up. He's done pretty well only allowing a couple big plays tbh.

Seahawks only have a chance this playoffs if Wilson takes the team on his shoulders and balls out of his mind. Defense can't bail them out. There is no running game whatsoever. No run blocking. And unfortunately no pass protection either. So it seems unlikely they will make it far, it would tske the o-line to suddenly gel and do it multiple games in a row which we just haven't seen all year. Maybe if Wilson didn't get hurt this year he could do it, because I feel like he still isn't running like he used to not with that knee brace on. And that's alright, they suffered some key injuries, bad injuries Lockett and Earl, Kam Rawls and Bennett missing large chunks of games, that's usual going to be too much to overcome for any team.

Man, that's so awesome and weird for me to see. I'm sure a lot of Seahawks players are fans of his and will collect his jersey lol.

I know the hall of fame doesn't put in special teams players besides kickers, but I think Hester should be the exception. It isn't just that he has the most returns in history and that he broke all the records in a short amount of playing time, but the huge impact he was. I don't recall ever seeing a special teams player single handedly win games repeatedly. Rex Grossman 5 INTs in a game, zero points by the offense? 14 points by Devin Hester on two punt returns is enough to win the game. 4 INTs by Grossman, 1 lost fumble, 3 points by offense and a defensive score - Hester returns KR for TD and PR for TD, they win game. Stupid shit like that I've just never seen, not too mention all the times he broke a 50-70 yard return but got tackled short of the end zone which led to an easy TD or FG by the offense. So many games he bailed their shit show offense out.

He very well may do absolutely nothing again Detroit, but I think it's worth the risk - it's better than having Sherman call fair catches and the Seahawks the way they've been playing they need everything they can get from special teams, it's a smart move due to circumstances and availability.

Totally agree.

Plus if another team wanted to be underhanded they could tell one of their gunners (or he could take it upon himself) to take out Sherman even if he signals fair catch.

They would lose a special teams guy and we would lose one of our best players.....that's easy math.

Made me nervous everytime i saw Sherman back there. Hell, just random dudes that want to take a shot at him because he's Sherman. I remember a couple years back when they had Earl return a couple, I think Baldwin too, before settling on fair catch Brian Walters or whatever his name was, made me nervous then too. You need someone who is comfortable back there and have experience doing it. Sherman a couple times looked like he was struggling to get under the ball, one of them called fair catch pretty late.

Another benefit of Hester is the tips and tricks he can pass down to Tyler Lockett.

If they had more time I think they could do that but probably not on a short weak, unless he's a decoy it would be a big gamble.

The downside is Hester is fumble prone. I see Reddit Seahawks are shitting on picking him up because of this. They worry too much though. If they lose to the Lions it's not going to because if a muffed punt or whatever, they would have far bigger problems if they can't take care of business against the Lions at home in the playoffs.
