Sorry to hear that Rae & Kontac. As a former student of Independence High (ESUHSD), and now a parent of a son that attends Overfelt, I can say that I'm surprised, but then again not really. I'm surprised that they cancelled it, because I was starting to think that there was a change in thier thinking, then, they proved that they still on some shit that they used to do to us back in the 90's.

Everytime something is put in place to benefit the very ones that we and THEY say we are trying to look out for, some politics come into play. The question needs to asked, WHY? on the block? Mr. Nunez are you for seeing a peaceful/artful demonstration that will benefit the district? Well, why not? OR are you just collecting a large salary under that false pretenses that you are doing everything in your power to make the youth that attend the schools in your district successful in life.

Kontac. The City of San Jose has ALWAYS been in denial of any "hood shit" going on in thier precious "gateway to the Silicon Valley" I see reports all the time on how its the "safest" city, and what not. I am really starting to think that some of the statistics are going unreported. Anyone that actually puts in time on the streets of San Jose, will tell you different. Thats not to say that its like Richmond, Oakland, etc....but there are things that are going on out there. If the reporting was accurate, then it would cause a fall of businesses and political clout. Why? These multi million and Billion dollar businesses dont want to be in a "high crime" area. You wont have Applied Materials, Cisco systems, etc....in so-called bad areas. These places also play a huge part of the economy.

Back to Nunez. A background check needs to be done on him. Next time their is a school board hearing, he needs to be put on blast, and made accountable on why he would block an event that had so much support from the community, the SAME community in which he is supposed to serve....

I could go on and on, but I will leave that for some thought. Keep fighting the good fight Ray and Kontac. Peace Be upon you both

Only in fuckin' San Jose would they cut a show like this off because it "might cause problems". They don't shut the bars and clubs in downtown San Jose down, and those motherfuckers have problems EVERY SINGLE NIGHT! This was something positive and these paranoid, rap hating pieces of shit had to go fuck it up. The artists don't suffer, the children do. Period!

Nunez just called me and said sorry and wanted to try it again at the start of the school year
Thats cool and all, but I would still go hard. You never want noone to throw out some "shut up" words to try to throw you off couse. We aint accepting no crumbs that fell off the plate. So if he real bout that, then he should put it in writing on official letter head. There should even be a hearing/press conference/meeting held to announce that.

Fools always be doing shit like that. When you have the momentum going, and people all amped up, they use that tricknology, and say "yea, at the beginning of the school year....." Be mindful of the time. Start of the school year is cool, but it aint nothin like the hot summer days of June....where the youth would have been talkin bout it ALL SUMMER.

damn. although this is for a great cause, rap music paints a negative picture in the general public's head. this is the EXACT reason why you have to sacrafice in some areas to gain in others that truly need to be addressed. i definately dont agree with the decision but at the same time, i cant be blind to the reasoning either. understanding how to deal with people that have no idea what the struggle we call life is about and how to reach out to the youth in a positive way is the problem every community faces. the only way to beat them is through education and discipline. they cant see past the music.

Agree 100%. Get that shit IN WRITING...formal contract and all...and if they don't follow through, you know what steps can be taken to make sure it goes down.

Well, today we got the worst news we could have possibly expected. The Save Our Sports Benefit Show has been shutdown and cancelled. This isn’t a joke. After the efforts of some amazing people, and I do mean amazing for what they were able to put together in a matter of 1 month was nothing short of that. The word came down at 8:30am this morning from the East Side Union HS District Superintendent Mr. Bob Nunez, that he had in fact terminated the show. The female risk manager of the ESUHSD gave our investor and Athletic Director Mr. Ed Buller a very hard time completing the insurance policy. She made it very hard to work with her and although we had every piece to the puzzle she threw at us, she was adamant about being difficult and ultimately stopping the event.

Despite the fact that we got the okay from the A.D., the School, The Superintendent, The Save Our Sports Committee and support from The Mercury News, The SF Chronicle, Channel 2 News, Channel 5 News, 106KMEL, 90.5KSJS & more…it wasn’t good enough. In the end “RAP” was the issue and she along with the Gang Task force wanted nothing to do with it. She took it to the Superintendent and principle of Oak Grove and pushed the issue until they gave way and conceded. They called Mr. Ed Buller this a.m. and told him the show was off due to concerns over RAP at a local high school and when asked if he could speak with the Superintendent Mr. Bob Nunez, he said he wasn’t taking any calls and that his decision was final.

In the end it did not matter that this was a family safe event, all ages, parents encouraged to come and thrown by some well respected businessmen; one of whom happens to be a teacher himself. They took no initiative to reach out to us and meet with us regarding their concerns. The Gang Task Force could have met with us along with the Risk Manager and Superintendent Mr. Bob Nunez and they would have seen 1st hand that we would have welcomed even the GTF to come out and join the event to see that it was for a great cause. Instead, they opted to let their fears of RAP and this bad persona affect their decision and again leave the district with yet another missed opportunity to raise some of that $2 Million it needs to get the sports programs back.

Before I wrap this up, my question is this for the Gang Task Force & Superintendent; where do you think these kids are going to go without sports now? You think Gang Task Force is fearful now and busy now, watch what happens without these sports programs and what these kids resort to. They have nothing to keep them occupied and you shut down one of the events put together to SOLELY help get back some of that money that is owed to try and prevent future community issues with our kids? Does it make any sense? You cower behind closed doors and instead of doing what “leaders” do and meet with those in charge; you make a very abrupt and un-thoughtful decision to terminate this event. It’s amazing to all of us and you; yes all of you in charge at the school district are to blame for this. The news ran stories of “whoa is me, nobody wants to help us…the community doesn’t seem that concerned” and when it is offered you push it away because of your fear of a genre of music? You should be ashamed. WE ARE.

Thank you to all of you who donated, picked up tickets, worked behind the scenes for NO MONEY and even those on the face of that flyer for offering time out of their busy schedules to give back to a city who some of you didn’t even belong too. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and we promise, this is one pebble in the road we travel and we will be successful in our efforts you can bet that. Those of you who donated will be issued full refunds.

Questions, you can call or email Ray “Playa Rae” Molina Jr. here, [email protected] or 408-649-1922 because I am one of those who handle things like a “leader” as I mentioned earlier. If you’d like to discuss this with me or any of my associates (Hayves Streeter of Cadre Media, Stephen Kontac of Beats By The Bay or Suga Kane of Tha Unda), we can do that too.

Regretfully,

Ray “Playa Rae” Molina Jr.

Hey Rae, if you meet with these folks I would LOVE to be there..I would love to give them my 2 pennies as well. I've seen many gone, either dead or in jail, because of this type of bullshit. On the news, they act like they care about the community...but the fact of the matter is, they don't give a fuck. You're absolutely right, taking this shit away from schools is going to intensify the problem, and they won't know that until it's too late.

What else are these kids going to do if they have no sports? Shit, they're taking away music programs, too. Things that are encouraging kids to stay focused when they are not in class are GONE! Then they sit there and wonder why 15 year old Joe just died in a shootout...or why he even started doing negative shit in the first place.

I'm seriously sick of this shit, Rae. So, SERIOUSLY, if you ever meet with anybody or take this to city hall...or to ANYBODY for that matter, let me know so I can be there too.

I understand alot of the frustrations on here. But I got's to add my two cents which aint gonna be popular.
Which is that when this happens I blame every single fuckin' knucklehead out there that goes to rap and hip hop shows soley for the reason to fuck shit up. We know what's up with all that... we can posture in just doing a show or whatever, then half the crew shows up all faulty and actin out, trippin off of hoes or what happened way back at The Ambassadorrs Lounge.
I aint knockin the effort.. my point is that I believe that the rap scene, especially the local rap scene gives everyone ever reason to hate.. and privately we acknowledge this to each other.. but we need to clean the scene up ourselves and learn to make better music..
the better music will translate to better environments to handle your shit.
I know cat's aint trying to hear me and that's ok.. I'm spittin it real plain right now.

^^^ Naw, thats a cop out. I used to work at San Jose Arena in the mid-90's, Them Country concerts were WAY MORE vicious then any rap concert I been too. Them cowboys get drunk, and it was on!! Shooting, stabbings, fights.......BUT if Rae and them had a benefit concert and brought in some country muthafuccas, they wouldve prolly let that fly

It's not a cop out bro... I actually agree that yeah some country concerts get out of line, so does that mean we have to do the same?
The real cop out is when we don't want to accept accountability for ourselves... and like the cat above said.. fight fire with fire, we have to learn how to put game on cats like this. Negativity breeds more negativity that's the truth. Maybe next time they should do a mixed show.. mix some hip hop cats, with some rap cats, and even some rock acts too.
This really is an old argument.. like since the 80's... and in the end we blow it for ourselves.. it's not a cop out.
