i gotta agree with 50 on this...its not giving us a bad name cuz nobody knows anything about these awards to begin with...all these local acts are pretty much staying local...with the exclusion of the obvious few(Mitchy, CS, IRocc, Jayo, Lil Rob etc) nobody is moving units outside of town to give us ANY kind of rep bad or good. As much as the underground "nerd rap" is not my kind of music and i wouldnt sit through another show where a bunch of white dudes do their best 1992 tribe called quest impersonation it really doesnt matter. because the fanbase is the same two or three hundred suburban kids in some basement in kensington or the beehive or whereever...its like a tree falling in the forest...im saying all this to say that these rap awards obviously dont represent the full spectrum of san diego artist but then again what does it matter what the fools that write the reader and city beat think(chances are they are apart of that 200 or 300 that go to the above mentioned places)

There was only one real hip hop album that was nominated for that award and it was for TIMZ'z "Open for Business." It didn't win but we are still pretty happy that it was reckognized. For those that have never heard of TIMZ, he made the remake to the Chargers rap song that was played all over the tv stations last year in Daygo. You can hear it at www.timzonline.com. TIMZ's debut album has been receiving a lot of attention not only in San Diego but accross the country. His songs are being played on regular rotation right now in over 200 college radio stations nationwide and will be in stores nationwide very soon as well. You can get the album now at cdbaby.com/timz or at a store in the South East on Ocean View Blvd. Cell Phone shop accross from Mike's Market on 36th and Ocean View sells cd's for local artists. They got the TIMZ, Lil B-Stone, Sick Beav, and others. And for all of you that are hating on the award. I'm sure you would have been thrilled to be nominated. Congrats to DJ Fingaz for winning best DJ as well.

the sdma's are bullshit just like all award shows. nothing new or special.

but just cause you havent heard of someone doesnt mean anything. i dont know about the other artists but al howard and the k23 and deep rooted have been doing it for a while and i think deserve respect in sd.

ive been trying to rep al howard on here for the longest trying to get ppl to listen to his shit, but its always fell on deaf ears cause i guess ppl are too scared to broaden their musical horizons and listen to music theyve never heard of. that and the fact that al howard doesnt just brag and exagerate about how rich powerful and hard he is, which is i guess all ppl on here want to listen to.
but howard does think its funny that they keep putting the k23 in the hip hop category but if you ask me, whether he knows it or not, what hes doing through the mic is rapping, and he spits it better than anyone in dago. overall the k23 is not a hip hop group...they have an element of hip hop in their music but theyve got alot more to offer than just that which i think is a good thing for any artists. so i think they deserve to have been winning awards for the past 3 years.

dont be scared to hear them for yourself:

http://download.yousendit.com/FB722FC417FE998F
http://download.yousendit.com/36AD8514161CCC9C (hottest track on the album)

what i think the biggest bullshit of all is who ended up winning...some kids from point loma high who just rep ob and rap about getting fucked up and partying. i had to see for myself what they were about and they really are straight garbage. even that girl mc flow deserved it more than they did.
if you feel like getting mad check them out yourself:

He spits better than anyone in Dago??? No way, Al Howard is pretty weak mayne... He's a Saul Williams knockoff all spoken word and pretzel poems...
How he's managed to beat Skitzo for the last few years is beyond me... I tend to think the fix is in... The SDMA's likes that non threating, you're a boho Black guy type of rap... Al Howard fits right in!!!!

if al howards a saul williams knock off (i do think saul williams is pretty tight by the way), then tony skitzo is a knock off of too long a list of rappers that are out there. im not hating on skitzo cause hes not garbage, but cmon, what makes him good and al howard weak? the fact that al howards music is about shit that you dont normally hear in every day conversation? hes not even a "rapper" and still spits it better than anyone in dago, just listen to the tracks i put up to download

Skitzo is 'hip hop' if you ask him what genre of music he's making that's what he would say... Al Howards not even a 'rapper' so he shouldn't even be in the catagory is what I'm saying... Why is your boy weak? Because I own a copy of 'The Serpentine Highway' and it's full of those same tired coffee shop poems that every Black guy with Dreads and a Jill Scott fetish kicks... very Love Jones... and soooo predictable... I just think calling that guy the best spitter is a bit much...

fine. al howard and the k23 are not hip hop...theyve only got some hip hop elements among many others in their music. and howard is not a rapper, but when hes vocalizing through the mic what is he doing? is it just singing? to me it sounds like "rapping". im honestly asking, cause i agree theyre not a hip hop group, but i wouldnt know exactly what category to put them into myself. his poems my be cliche (i havent read serp highway, but ill take your word for it), but i think the fact that its not so easy to just think of one definitive genre for the group shows that the music is not so predictable...as opposed to a "real rapper" who is probably gonna brag about his hardness and richness repeatedly throughout his music. tell me who you like, and who you think is better over a mic and ill let you know how predictable he is too.

...

Pretty much most of the awards are put on by bullshit cooperations that dont know shit they just throw in the Hip Hop award not really doing any research. But most of the times its all vote based. Next year when its about that time to get your votes in post up here and get people heard post links and all that shit. I believe this year Dj Fingaz got his grind on got his votes up and actually won. Same with Deep Rooted. Its just an extension of the game to get heard in these things same as getting your shit out in the streets.
peace
