I get tired of lookin' at all the same shit all the time.....so I thought I would spice it up a bit in here and find out a little background info on everybody.

1) How long have you been making beats?

2) What was your first piece of gear....or set-up?

3) When did you produce your first song?

4) Have you produced any tracks or albums that have been commercially released?

5) If so.....what has been your most popular or successful one?

___________________________________

My answers:

1) 13 years. I started out spinnin' records in 1989.....then I was introduced to a drum machine and fell in love.

2) My first piece of real gear was an Alesis HR-16a drum machine. Plus I also had 2 Technic 1200 turntables and I would mix breakbeats & samples in with my beats.

3) I started producing songs in 1990. We used to do them with 1 take on the tape recorder. In 1991 we graduated to a Fostex 4-track and I've been making songs ever since.

4) I have produced 8 full length albums. I also run my own indie label and have released 6 of them on my own.....with 2 more about to drop. I have also done numerous tracks for various Seattle artists as well as artists around the Northwest, California, the Mid-West, East Coast and Germany.

5) Right now I would have to say that our F.T.S "Money Motivated" album has been my most popular album that I have produced......it has sold about 2,000 copies in the Seattle area alone and is the best selling local album Sam Goody has ever had. My single most popular song has been "Player's Policy pt. 2" from Byrdie's "Poetic Epidemic" album that was released on my label in August 2001. The song was played for 3 months on Future Flavors (a show where they play new and local music) and was then put into regular rotation on KUBE 93 (the biggest station in Seattle) where it was being played for about a month and a half. The song also received spins on Jammin' 95 in Portland, OR and at quite a few college stations around the country.

I also have a few Mp3.com pages that have been pretty popular.......my F.T.S page has had over 170,000 downloads and Syko's page has had 118,000 downloads. My beats page www.mp3.com/MrD-Sane has had 30,000 downloads and of the 15 beats I had on there (for no reason) there are only 4 that haven't been sold yet.

OK....enough about me......your turn! Holla!

Producing since age 14 (1996)

First gear: Tascam 4-track, Casio keyboard (less than $100 for both)

First song I produced was in 1996 with my stepbrother.

I am about to drop my 4th solo album - worked with 2 labels already but got dropped from both of them before anything got released, so I'm stuck online for the moment.

My current single, "Holy Smoke" is #1 on MP3.com's Monterey Bay charts, and has remained there every day now for the past two months. Hit up www.mp3.com/Mostel to listen.....

1. I started out playin' the drums when I was 11, so i have the musical background. My borther played guitar and shit, About a year or two after I started Playin, my bro got a 4 track recorder(Tascam), and we would record sum simple little songs and shit. He was goin' to Jr. College and he took a Recording class. I went to the studio and recorded sum tracks for him. From that point I kne where I wanted to be, In the Studio. When I was fifteen I used to Record my tracks hella ghetto Style, I would mic up my set wit like 2 mics and record myself playin' for a few minutes, then I would play sum cheezy synth parts over my drums, I would play all the way throu, if I fucked it up, I'd have to sart over. I actuall Tried Rappin' ovee it, it came out shitty, but I had fun doin' it. itz been almost 2 years since I started makin' beats the right way with Synths sequences in cubase(timin' perfect, and notes quantized)

2. The Tascam 4 track, as far as beats goes, I first copped the Korg ER1 Drum Machine, Which I still have, I intend to use it when i cop a new midi Interface.

3.My first real song I produced that actually came out decent was Brain Gone, Even Though I don't like it anymore, it could have been better, but thatz all good, Ima do a remix on that shit.

4.Nope, workin' on production for my homies album, itz not as good as mine will be, my album is gonna be str8 savage! But for the time being, I'll polish up my production skills with his shit, by the time I'm done with him, my shit will be on point. and lately, shit's been knockin' and my mixes have been comin' out super clean.

Good topic D.

ive played guitar since i was 5 (i can play bass also), drums when i was about 8, and ive fucked around with the piano tho im not very good. ive been writing my OWN music since i was about 11 (song lyrics and guitar tab for them). ive only started fuckin with creating actual intstrumental audios for about 2 years. i stared off with Fruity Loops FULL v.3.0, and its all i use to this day (tho i have a small collection of non-FL samples). when i first started my shit was pretty poorly made (because of my lack of mixing sounds and using effects/editing techniques, which i still have some problems with), but over time i gradually increased in my knowledge and skill with the program. i eventually would liek to start fuckin around with soem hardware, tho time and money are factors in keeping me from that. i HAVE actually had my beats used for a few songs....the first being for a song called "Hustlin' is a Habit" by Decoy, which will be used for his debut CD "Steppin' Out The Mist", also featuring Brotha Lynch, X-Raided, First Degree, A-Wax, Messy Marv, Mista Drawmuh, and soem production from the brain child of this thread...the other other 2 beats are being used by Big Oso Loc, one of which is recorded already called "Homicidal Trance", and another that i believe is still in the process of recording and should be featuring well-known Norteno rapper Woodie, and i believe the song is going to be called "Outta Bounds".... i think both tracks are going to be on Oso's up-coming debut "Just Another Day..."....as for music RIGHT NOW....im currently trying to create/organize/mix(to the best of my ability) a collection of my music into around 1-2 minute long snippets on CD-R's, which i will be eventually shopping out to any serious talent, artist, or record labels interested. PM me if you are one of those

1.Started composing my own music in Nov 99' with Fruity Loops. I used to play the drums and piano in elementry school but didnt enjoy it like I do making music with synths/modules/sequencers.

2.My first peice of gear I purchased was a Korg N5 synth..It did me well for starting out and I still use it now for the combination sounds..

3.The first song I actually produced was TH3 Circus by the Sand Child about a year and a half ago..I feel it was good for the time...alot of people liked it but now looking back I see alot of stuff I could have improved..

4.Nope. Working on my homie the Sand Child's debut with my partna D3fmade..I produced a couple beats on Decoy's album and 1 on Medicine Man's new album.

You can hear some samples of my most recent beats here..

1. Started making beats since last quarter of 98 with Fruityloops.

2. A Kurzweil K2600S (If I don't count my computer)

3. In 98 or 99, I don't know. It sucked and it didn't go anywhere.

4. - I produced a couple tracks on Mac Dammit Man (intro and Mac Dammit Man) and track 3 on Thizzelle Washington (Stuart Littles), which were all jacked.
- Did a lot of production on Decoy's "Steppin out the Mist" which isn't out yet.
- Did production on a Mr Bilistic album
- Did production for a couple of 28thaNative's albums and also did the title track to his cypha litez radio show.
- Lately I've been working on Loki's next album.
- Also working on an album with my guitar player.
- I'm sure I've done some other shit, but I really don't remember, and I keep horrible fucking records.

5. I have no idea.

i've been producing since 99 - but I took a year off from music in 2000-2001 because i had a nervous breakdown...first piece of gear was the triton (of course) and traded it for a kurzweil k2000s which i in turn gave up for a karma because i dig korg in general.

to an extent i'm still basically a mentally handicapped person (as if no one could tell) and I only make songs once in a while even though it's not fun anymore, i've never commercially released shit because i have to work a full time job and i'm waaaaaaaaay too tired to go home and come up with anything - and even if I do it'll never go anywhere anyway so why bother.

i would like to work with anyone signed to a bigger indy label, maybe even a major, because my ear is keen, my beats are excellent and I am the best MC this nation has seen in quite sometime - so they'd recognize the skill and assist me...so i wouldn't have to do everything by my fuckin self anymore

1.) Since I was 19, but as of late I have alot of other things going on in my life that must come 1st so my trinity doesn't get the power on button hit to much.

2.) The 1st peice of gear I bought myself was a Korg Trinity. The 1st peice of gear I used was an Ensoniq Asr-X Turbo ( the OG black one ). The 1st peice of gear I recorded on was a tascam 4-track portastudio.

3.) For this one the 1st song I recorded and mixed myself was when I was 24 ( two years ago ) even though before that I had been doing shit but always with somebody else.

4.) Yes and No. I helped with a track on underground Hittaz (AOD - Fallen Angelz ) if you wanna count that. Our album is almost done which I recorded all of it and right now in the process of mixing all the trackz down, but it will be a underground album, slanging from the trunks of cars.

5.) Only time will tell........

On a side note I did get a chance to work with and record with First Degree for our album, its a trip to meet and work with a cat that I have been listening to since southbound. Hopefully we can make an impact in the game even if its a small one.

P.S. Next year marks the 20th year Anniversary of MIDI. Shits been out for along time.

1. I learned how to play the keys at a early age, either 6 or 7 (dont remember) my first instrument was those little ass keyboards that had 30 or so keys. I didn't know how to play it yet, i just kept punchin on those keys. But when I went back home to Beirut, I took my little portable keyboard with me. The next day my Grandpa started teachin me how to play well known Arabic music. he taught me the basics like how to properly place your fingers on the keys, and to keep tapping your foot to time the music better. shit like that. You know how kids are, they're all fast learners. So in a month I knew six songs by heart with no fuck ups. It was basically an everyday 2 - 3 hour lesson. After i new how to play those black and whites a little bit, every song that came up on either the radio or TV; I tried playing the basics of that song. And it was really good practice for me by doing that.
As time moved on, I kept on getting keyboards. I then got a Yamaha PSR 185 (had it for a year), the a Yamaha PSR 530 (had it for 4 years). When I got the 530, thats when I really got into making my own music (or beats if thats what its called these days)

2. my first professional musical instrument, was the MPC 2000. so my first set up was the MPC, along with the PSR 530.

In other words, Im old when it comes down to punchin those black and whites, But I'm new to Mixing, Computer softwares, and even Prfessional Keyboards. I just got the Motif not so long ago. But i haven't learned a fraction of what is to be learned on this synthesizer.

well, i hope yall enjoyed that long ass article

peace!!!

1) How long have you been making beats?

For the hell of it since around 95-96. Actually trying to do something with it since 2000.

2) What was your first piece of gear....or set-up?

My first setup was a bunch of used up gear: Alesis MMT8, a Boss DR-660, Roland U-220, and a Yamaha 4-track

3) When did you produce your first song?

During the Summer of '98

4) Have you produced any tracks or albums that have been commercially released?

Did some theme music in 98-99 time frame for a non-profit organization on the east coast (which prompted me to start making beats seriously a short time later), and some local ish for Kalm. A few others about to be relased in the next few minutes.

5) If so.....what has been your most popular or successful one?

The non-profit shot back east.

1) How long have you been making beats?

about 2 years on and off, self taught.

2) What was your first piece of gear....or set-up?

for a couple of months i used a soundblaster 32 and Cubase VST.
then i got my fathers JV-1080 sound module and roland A-30 keyboard, i dont even know how to use it properly.

3) When did you produce your first song?

2000 some time.. cant remember exactly, but ive only finished 2 songs properly which were..
1."north west style of flow" (- for 28 tha Native on the hostile takeover compilation from nightshield.)
2."im comin" - (a track by a guy called Calico in DC, he told me he got radio play up there and he sent me a demo tape last year.)

4) Have you produced any tracks or albums that have been commercially released?

the 2 above.

5)

i have no idea which song did better but i guess "northwest".. i didnt even know till about 1 month ago that it was released. last time i heard it it was only a 1 minute loop. so if anyone else knows of any songs with my beats let me know, it would be much apreciated.
