I don't think you should have to be a criminal or not have a job to not respect a former cop pretending to be a drug lord. I also don't think it would have been nearly as big of a deal if he didn't deny it at first. He's a phoney. I never liked a Rick Ross song even before I knew he was a cop either tho.
i was on one last night when i posted this but allow me to elaborate
in high school the guy thats the most popular is the star quarterback or basketball player that slays the most females
on the streets the guy thats the most popular is the one that pushes the most weight or strikes fear into the heart of his rivals
im saying the music industry is based off of illusion, rap about private planes when you ride coach, rap about a mansion when you stay in an apt thus being a business not a popularity contest, obviously lil wayne and artists that get clear channel spins 24/7 and mtv videos are the most popular i was saying it in terms of legitimate popularity based on real life actions not smoke and mirrors.

my thing is... this shit is art, and nothing more. especially rap that has to do with street life... hell, 4/5 of the group that originally popularized the subgenre weren't legitimate gang members.
on the other hand, when these rappers who are perpetrating for the sake of the form of entertainment we call rap music try to act like they're some hard heads outside of a sound booth (i.e. rick ross), that's when these rappers get extremely lame to me. as i said earlier, i like my fair share of rick ross's music, but i do NOT respect people like him as a man at all.
